NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack women's basketball team (18-5, 8-4) continue their three-game homestand as they host former WAC foe the UTRGV Vaqueros (11-12, 6-6) in a Thursday night clash at the Sawmill.
Ladyjacks at a Glance:
The Ladyjacks will be carrying no shortage of confidence and momentum in their second game of their three-game homestand as they are fresh off a revenge 72-66 win over the Lamar University Cardinals that helped avenge an earlier 77-74 loss to the Cardinals this season. The win over Lamar not only granted SFA a much-anticipated revenge win, it also marked the fourth consecutive win for the Ladyjacks and kept their impressive home play going as they improved their home record to 9-1 this season. The Ladyjacks may have found the formula to stringing together wins as they have scored over 70 points in three of the four wins on their win streak and when scoring over 70 points this season, the 'Jacks hold an impressive 14-4 record.
Vaqueros at a Glance:
The UTRGV Vaqueros open up a mini two-game road trip in Nacogdoches on Thursday evening before closing out the road trip in Beaumont as they face-off with the Lamar University Cardinals. The Vaqueros were winners their last time out with a defensive masterclass against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi as they won the South Texas Showdown by a final score of 56-37, and granted the Vaqueros the South Texas Showdown season sweep over Corpus as they defeated the Islanders 61-53 earlier this season. The Vaqueros will be looking to keep the Ladyjacks from exacting revenge for a second straight game as they hope to replicate the result from the first meeting this season where they defeated SFA 78-72.
Scouting Report-Ladyjacks:
Speaking of confidence and momentum, one Ladyjack in particular will be carrying plenty of it into the Thursday night showdown against the Vaqueros. Faith Blackstone is fresh off being named Southland Conference Player of the Week. Blackstone is coming off a week where she combined to score 35 points, including 20 in the revenge win against Lamar, while also recording her third double-double of the season with a 15-point 10-rebound performance against the New Orleans University Privateers. Blackstone is not the only Ladyjack playing with confidence, however, as a trio of Ladyjacks have started to find their midseason stride as of late. Ashlyn Traylor-Walker has been pouring on the points lately as she has scored double-digit points in six of her last seven games, while Trinity Moore has provided unparalled consistency as she has scored double-digit points in six straight games. Harmanie Dominguez has turned into a lethal shooter from beyond the arc lately as she has knocked down 14 three-pointers over her last three contests.
Scouting Report-Vaqueros:
Kade Hackerott leads the offensive charge for the Vaqueros as she averages a team-high 12.5 points/game this season. Hackerott has also had no trouble allowing her teammates to score as she leads the team with 63 assists, while pitching in defensively with a team-leading 26 steals. Charlotte O'Keefe has been stuffing the stat sheet all season for the Vaqueros as she averages a double-double with her 10.7 points/game and 12.5 rebounds/game average, while blocking a team-high 31 shots. O'Keee leads the Southland Conference in rebounds by a wide margin this year as she has pulled down an impressive 288 boards this year.
Series:
Thursday night's home showdown against the Vaqueros will feature the 16th all-time meeting between these two former WAC rivals. SFA leads the all-time series 11-4, however, the Vaqueros have proven victorious the last two meetings including the one earlier this season in December where they defeated SFA 78-72 in Edinburg.
