
Harmanie Dominguez Drops 28 and Passes Marissa Banfield for Fourth Most Three-Pointers in a Single Season

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin women's basketball team (19-5, 9-4) continued their home stand against the UTRGV Vaqueros (11-13, 6-7).
Reigning Southland Conference Player of the Week, Faith Blackstone got the game off to a hot start by draining a three-pointer. The 'Jacks extended their lead with a layup from Ashlyn Traylor-Walker and a three from Key Roseby, who made her first collegiate start, 8-2. Two minutes later, back-to-back layups from Harmanie Dominguez and Blackstone grew the SFA lead to eight, 12-4 with 5:00 minutes left in the first quarter. Both teams traded baskets the rest of the quarter as SFA went into the first break with a 22-12 lead.
The 'Jacks start off on a 6-3 run and held a 28-15 lead with 8:29 left in the second quarter. Back-to-back three-pointers from Dominguez and Trinity Moore extended the SFA lead, 34-17 with 6:15 left. UTRGV went on a 5-0 spurt to cut the deficit down to 34-22. Both teams traded blows the rest of the quarter but the 'Jacks went into the locker room with a 44-32 lead.
SFA continued their hot start with a 10-2 run to begin the third quarter to extend their lead to 52-34 with 8:37 left. Both teams traded baskets over the next six minutes until the Vaqueros went on a 9-3 run to cut the lead down to 66-53 with 39 seconds left. After a quick layup from Dominguez and a missed shot from UTRGV, the ball got in the hands of Ituau Tuisaula who launched the ball from the opposing three-point line for an incredible buzzer beater to end the third. SFA headed into the final ten minutes with a commanding 71-53 lead.
UTRGV started the fourth with a 7-0 run to cut the deficit down to 11, 71-60 with 7:14 left in the game. However, two minutes later SFA responded with an 8-0 spurt to bring their lead up to 19 points, 81-62 with 4:20 left. Both teams traded free throws until UTRGV made a three with under a minute left in the game. Cha Gardner capped off an 87-67 win for the 'Jacks with a layup. Dominguez finished the game with five three-pointers which gives her 68 this season and secures sole possession of fourth most in a single season in SFA history as she passes Marissa Banfield who had 67 in 2020-21.
