All-Time Series: SFA Leads 53-13
NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack women's basketball team (24-5, 14-4) opens up their final homestand of the season as they play host to the visiting McNeese State University Cowgirls (10-18, 5-12).
Ladyjacks at a Glance:
The Ladyjacks continue to take their season and win streak to new heights every week. With wins over Houston Christian and Incarnate Word, the Ladyjacks have now pushed their win streak to double-digits as it currently sits at an impressive 10 consecutive wins. The wins have helped ensure SFA finishes no worse than the third seed in the Southland Conference Tournament with the number two seed still in play as SFA remains just a half-game back of Lamar who will finish their season at home against Nicholls and McNeese before traveling to Corpus Christi. The Ladyjacks have all but ensured they finish as far and away the best offense in the Southland this season as over 29 games they have scored an astounding 2,285 points, averaging 78.8 points/game (ranking them 20th in the nation), and owning the best margin in the Southland as they own a +16.6 scoring point margin. One of the main enforcers behind this lethal SFA offense is the fact they are quietly the most dangerous three-point shooting team in the nation as they lead all of NCAA in three-point field goals with 283, while ranking 11th in the three-point field goal percentage as they have shot 37.24% from beyond the arc this season. It also certainly doesn't hurt to have an offense that plays selfless basketball as SFA averages a conference-high 16.14 assists/game, which paired with a stingy defense that has tallied 303 steals (second most in the Southland) has cooked up a perfect recipe for winning for Coach Bishop and the Ladyjacks this season.
Cowgirls at a Glance:
The McNeese State University Cowgirls will look to keep their playoff hopes alive over their final three games of the season as they hit the road for a pair of games against SFA and Lamar before closing out their season at home against New Orleans. The Cowgirls recorded a win against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi their last time out on Senior Day as they grabbed their fifth home win of the season with a 69-60 win over the Islanders. The win over the Islanders not only secured the season sweep of Corpus Christi for the Cowgirls, but it more importantly moved the Cowgirls into a tie for the coveted eighth spot in the Southland standings with the Islanders as both teams hold a 5-12 conference record with three games left for each team.
Scouting Report-Ladyjacks:
The Ladyjacks continue to play some of the best team-oriented basketball in the Southland as they don't rely too heavily on one player, but instead the entire team steps up and executes a balanced offensive game plan that continues to help power SFA to wins. For example, in SFA's 66-59 win over HCU, Cha Gardner stepped up for the Ladyjacks with a career-high 20-point, 10-rebound performance for her second double-double of the season, which paired with a 17-point performance from Ashlyn Traylor-Walker and a 15-point effort from Faith Blackstone helped SFA tame the Huskies. Just two days later, Faith Blackstone took over lead scoring duties for SFA with a 17-point game, in a game that saw three other Ladyjacks tally double-digit point-scoring efforts as Traylor-Walker scored 14 points, Harmanie Dominguez added on 13 points, and Trinity Moore recorded an 11-point, 12-rebound double-double for her fourth double-double of the season to lift SFA over the UIW Cardinals 73-68 and keep their impressive win streak rolling.
Scouting Report-Cowgirls:
Paris Guillory continues to make headlines for the Cowgirls as just a sophomore as she averages a healthy 15.0 points/game for McNeese, thanks in part to her team-leading 32 three-point field goals. Mireia Yespes and Kiayra Ellis have formed a solid complimentary duo for the Cowgirls as both have pulled down over 100 rebounds this season with Yespes leading the team with 167 boards, while combining to score over 400 points, and tallying 37 steals and 41 blocks defensively.
Series:
Thursday night's home showdown against the Cowgirls will see these two Southland foes face off for the 67th all-time meeting. SFA leads the all-time series 53-13 as the Ladyjacks have won the last seven meetings and will aim for the season sweep of McNeese following their earlier 91-49 win over McNeese at the Sawmill in January.
Stephen F. Austin vs Nicholls State University
Date: Saturday, March 1st

All-Time Series: SFA Leads 14-6
NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks women's basketball team (24-5, 14-4) finish out both their regular season and home schedule for the year with their final home game of the season against the visiting Nicholls State University Colonels (16-11, 9-9).
Colonels at a Glance:
The Nicholls State University Colonels will be looking to get back in the win column and snap a three-game losing skid as they finish off their season with a pair of road games. The Colonels first start in Beaumont for a Thursday night meeting with the Lamar University Cardinals, before finishing their regular season schedule against the Ladyjacks at the Sawmill. Despite losing their last three, the Colonels are guaranteed a place in the Southland Conference tournament as their 9-9 conference record ensures the Colonels will finish no lower than the seventh seed in the tournament. Nicholls has been a consistently solid team both home and away this season as they have seven home and seven road wins this year, as they have won five of their last six road contests.
Scouting Report-Colonels:
Tanita Swift and Britiya Curtis have formed a dynamic offensive duo for Nicholls State this season. Swift leads the team averaging 14.4 points/game, which ranks her fifth in the Southland, while also contributing in a variety of other areas as she has pulled down 101 rebounds, dished out a team-leading 72 assists, and recorded a team-high 42 steals defensively. Meanwhile, Curtis has been the deep-shooting threat for the Colonels with her team-leading 40 triples this season, as she averages an even 10.0 points/game.
Series:
Saturday afternoon's regular-season finale for both teams will see these two schools square off for the 21st time in their series history. SFA leads the all-time series 14-6 and have won two of the last three meetings, however, it was the Colonels who came out on top earlier this season as they gritted out a 75-71 road win over the Ladyjacks.
