
Ladyjacks Secure 10th Straight Win as SFA Flies Past UIW

SAN ANTONIO, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Women's Basketball team (24-5, 14-4 SLC) ended their regular season road schedule in San Antonio against the Incarnate Word Cardinals (15-12, 10-8 SLC).
SFA jumped out to a 13-2 lead thanks to baskets from four different Ladyjacks. UIW got one basket before SFA ripped off another five straight points to increase their lead to 18-4 with 4:18 left in the first quarter. The Cardinals responded with a 9-0 run of their own to cut the deficit to five, 18-13 with 2:13 left. Both teams traded baskets the rest of the quarter, but the Ladyjacks held on to a four-point lead, 23-19.
Harmanie Dominguez drained a three-pointer to start the second quarter to extend the SFA lead to 26-19. That three pushed Dominguez past Tierany Henderson for the second most three-pointers made in a single season in SFA history. Both teams continued to trade blows, but the Cardinals went on a 9-0 run with 3:55 to take their first lead of the game 33-31. SFA responded with a Faith Blackstone three to retake the lead, 34-33. UIW then scored three straight points to take a slim 36-34 lead, but with 29 seconds left Avery VanSickle drained a long three-pointer to give the 'Jacks a 37-36 lead going into halftime.
Neither offense could find the bottom of the net to start the third quarter until UIW scored back-to-back layups with 6:06 left in the third, 40-37. Both teams traded baskets the rest of the third with both teams hitting clutch free throws to keep the game within one possession. The Cardinals made a layup with two second left in the quarter and took a 53-50 lead into the fourth quarter.
A made layup for UIW gave them a 55-50 lead, but the 'Jacks fought back with a 7-0 spurt to retake a 57-55 lead with 5:55 left in the game. The Cardinals made a layup with 4:17 left to tie the game at 60, but Dominguez got the 'Jacks the lead back with a three-pointer that was followed by a layup from Blackstone, 65-60. With under a minute left, Trinity Moore tipped in a layup to keep the SFA lead at five, 67-62. Fantastic free throw shooting from Dominguez and Ashlyn Traylor-Walker secured SFA's 10th straight win, 73-68.
