
Cha Gardner Sets New Career High with 20 Points and 10 Rebounds as Ladyjacks Defeat Huskies

HOUSTON, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin women's basketball team (23-5, 13-4 SLC) began their final road trip of the regular season against the Houston Christian Huskies (6-20, 3-14 SLC).
HCU jumped out to a 7-0 lead early, but SFA responded with an 8-0 run that included four points from Cha Gardner, and two from Faith Blackstone and Trinity Moore. Both teams traded baskets throughout the middle of the first quarter but with 2:53 left the Huskies went on an 8-0 run to finish out the quarter and went into the first break with a 19-13 lead.
Both teams traded blows to begin the second quarter until SFA went on a scorching 9-0 spurt with 3:04 left in the first half. Six of those points came from Cha Gardner who set a new career high with points in the first half. SFA held a slim 31-28 lead going into the halftime break.
Harmanie Dominguez started the second half out with a three-pointer before HCU responded with a layup, 34-30 with 9:19 left in the third. Both offenses struggled to shoot from the field over the next couple of minutes until reigning SLC Player of the Week, Ashlyn Traylor-Walker knocked down a layup to put the 'Jacks up 36-32. Both teams continued to trade baskets until Traylor-Walker scored five points in a row to extend their lead to 44-38 with 3:29 left. Both teams exchanged free throws right at the end of the quarter as SFA headed into the final ten minutes with a 48-43 lead.

With 5:16 left in the game, Traylor-Walker knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to extend the SFA lead to 60-49. After a three from HCU, Dominguez and Blackstone each drained three-pointers on a 6-2 run for the 'Jacks with 3:41 left. The Huskies tried to make a comeback with five straight points, but the lead was too much for them to overcome as SFA secured a 66-59 win.
