HOUSTON, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks women's basketball team (22-5, 12-4) continues their four-game road trip as they travel to Houston for a duel with the Houston Christian Huskies (6-19, 3-13) on Thursday evening.
Ladyjacks at a Glance:
Whether they're playing at home or away, the Ladyjacks continue to have little problems stacking wins on top of each other as they pushed their win streak to eight games last weekend with road wins over the East Texas A&M Lions and rival Northwestern State. Their most recent game over the Demons of Northwestern State kept SFA fans on the edge of their seats as a pair of Ashlyn Traylor-Walker free-throws with 1.1 seconds left in regulation helped break a 66-66 tie and grant SFA the win and the season sweep over the Demons while marking the eighth straight victory for the 'Jacks. Meanwhile, the win over the Lions to open the road trip for SFA punched the Ladyjacks ticket to the Southland Conference Tournament as they remain just a half-game back of Lamar for second place in the Southland standings. The Ladyjacks and their eight-game win streak now take aim at the Huskies looking to build on their 8-4 away record.
Huskies at a Glance:
The Houston Christian Huskies will be looking to get back in the win column on Thursday evening at home as they continue to try to make a late-season push to punch their way into the Southland Conference Tournament. The Huskies were victims of heartbreak their last time out as they lost 58-55 in overtime to the UTRGV Vaqueros to close out a two-game road trip. The Huskies now return home opening a critical two-game homestand with their work cut out for them as they host both SFA and Lamar and will be looking to improve on their 6-7 home record this season.
Scouting Report-Ladyjacks:
Ashlyn Traylor-Walker was named Southland Conference Player of the Week following a week that saw her tally 33 points, 13 assists, seven steals, and 12 rebounds in the wins over the Lions and Demons. Traylor-Walker put an exclamation point on her weekend with a 26-point outburst against the Demons to help SFA record their eighth straight win. Traylor-Walker has been a force to be reckoned with on both sides of the court as her 127 assists and 59 steals both lead the team and rank her 33rd and 50th nationally in those categories respectively. Meanwhile, Faith Blackstone continues to form a dynamic scoring duo with Traylor-Walker as her team-leading 15.3 points/game ranks her second in the conference, while she has recorded three straight games with double-digit points, and has scored double-digit points in nine of her last ten contests.
Scouting Report-Huskies
Erin Maguire leads the offensive attack for the Huskies as she averages 9.7 points/game and has scored 35 combined points over her last two games. Maguire is just as effective in helping her teammates score as she leads the team with 59 assists, and has made 20 three-pointers this season. Tiffany Tullis has been a rebounding machine for the Huskies all season as her 181 rebounds not only lead the team, but rank her fourth in the conference in that category, while Tullis has also added 27 steals and 15 blocks defensively. Hannah Fields has been a workhorse for HCU as she has started 23 out of a possible 24 games this season.
Series:
Thursday night's conference road matchup will mark the 14th all-time meeting between these two schools with SFA leading the all-time series 12-1. The Ladyjacks have won the last seven meetings and will aim for the season sweep of the Huskies as they defeated HCU 82-35 in January earlier this season at the Sawmill.
