After a scoreless top of the first for the Lumberjacks, Purdue jumped on the 'Jacks pitching, scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the first, highlighted by a home run by Keenan Spence. 5-0 Purdue.
Purdue would continue their hot start to the game, as they scored another 7 runs in the next two innings. In the top of the third, SFA was able to get on the board courtesy of an RBI groundout by Cemodrick Bland, who scored Owen Hooper. Hooper had singled to lead off the inning. 12-1 Boilermakers.
The Lumberjacks would continue to chip away at the lead in the top of the fourth. Jackson Benattar started off the inning with a double down the right field line, and a hit by pitch by Mark Henning and a single by Dante Turgeon would load the bases for Kevin Duran. Duran would come through, as he rocketed a double down the line to score both Benattar and Henning. The 'Jacks would tack on another before the inning was over, as Cemodrick Bland would score pinch-runner Josh Ibe with a sacrifice fly. 12-5 Purdue.
Purdue would score another two runs in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 14-5 in favor of the Boilermakers. In the top half of the sixth inning, SFA would continue their comeback. Kevin Duran led off the inning with his second extra-base hit of the game, a double, and he'd score shortly after when Julian Swift smoked a triple to center field. Swift would score later in the inning on a passed ball. 14-7 Purdue.
The next inning, Josh Ibe would hit the first home run of the 2025 season for the 'Jacks, as he smoked an opposite-field shot to make it 14-8 Purdue. The very next inning, River Curs led off the frame with a double down the left field line, and Dalton Mullins would bring him home with an RBI groundout. 14-9 Purdue.
In the bottom half of the eighth inning, Purdue would tack on another two runs to make the score 16-9.
In the top of the ninth, Josh Ibe was able to work a one-out walk, and Kevin Duran would follow him with a rocket to right field for his third double of the game. Julian Swift would bring them both home with his fourth hit of the game, a single up the middle. 16-11 Purdue. Cemodrick Bland picked up his third RBI of the game with a single to center, scoring Swift. Dalton Mullins would continue the trend of 'Jacks refusing to quit, as he would rope a single into right field to load the bases. Unfortunately, SFA was unable to capitalize and lost 16-12.
Brayden Olson (1-0) picked up the win for Purdue, while Elian Balmaceda (0-1) was charged with the loss.
