
Ladyjacks Secure Eighth Straight Win Behind 26 Points from Ashlyn Traylor-Walker

NATCHITOCHES, La.- The Stephen F. Austin women's basketball team (22-5, 12-4 SLC) made a quick trip over to Louisiana for a matchup against the Northwestern State Demons (12-12, 9-6 SLC) looking to sweep the season series and win their eighth straight game.
Ashlyn Traylor-Walker scored the first points of the game early on, but the Demons responded with a 10-point spurt, 10-2. Both teams traded layups before SFA went on an incredible 12-0 run to end the first quarter that included six points from Traylor-Walker, four from Cha Gardner and two from Faith Blackstone. The 'Jacks went into the first quarter break with a 16-12 lead.
The SFA offense continued to fire on all cylinders as they began the second quarter on an 8-1 run, 24-13 with 8:39 left. NSU would not go away without a fight as they responded with an 11-point run that tied the game up at 24 with 5:45 left in the first half. Over the next two minutes, SFA brought their lead back up to seven after a three-pointer from Key Roseby capped off the run for the 'Jacks, 31-24 with 3:06 left in the first half. Trinity Moore followed up with a three of her own to give SFA a 34-26 lead with 2:27 left in the second. Neither team was able to score for the next minute of the game, but NSU finished out the last 1:22 on a 5-2 run to cut the deficit to five, 36-31 at halftime.
The 'Jacks picked up where they left off in the first half as they began the second with a 10-2 run to extend their lead to 46-33 with 7:16 left. Both offenses struggled to score over the next two minutes until NSU broke the drought with a 7-3 spurt to bring the lead back down to single digits, 49-40 with 3:47 left. Both teams traded baskets for the rest of the quarter, but SFA maintained a 52-47 lead heading into the final ten minutes of play.
Both teams kept pace with each other for the first four minutes of the fourth, but NSU closed the gap on a six-point run, 59-58 with 5:37 left in the game. Four points from the Ladyjacks brought the lead back up to 63-58. The Demons responded with a four-point spurt of their own, 63-62 with 3:24 left. NSU took their first lead of the game since the first quarter with a three-pointer, 65-64 with 2:09 left. Traylor-Walker drained two free throws before Mya Blake tied the game up at 66 with a minute left. Blake then turned the ball over to Roseby who passed it to Harmanie Dominguez who lost the ball to Blake. Blake's jumper to win the game was shot after the shot clock expired which kept the game tied at 66 and gave SFA the ball with 2.3 seconds left. Blackstone passed the ball to Traylor-Walker on the inbounds who was fouled by Nia Hardison which sent Traylor-Walker to the free throw line for two chances to put the 'Jacks ahead. Traylor-Walker drained both free throw attempts with 1.1 seconds left. NSU took a timeout to advance the ball to their side of the court for an attempt at a buzzer beater, but the three-point attempt hits the front of the rim and the 'Jacks secured a 68-66 win.
