
Faith Blackstone Drops 20 as Ladyjacks Defeat Cardinals at Home

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin women's basketball team (18-5, 8-4 SLC) hosted the Lamar Cardinals (14-6, 9-2 SLC) Saturday evening.
Lamar jumped out to a 6-3 lead with 7:01 left in the first quarter. Trinity Moore completed a three-point play to tie the game up at six before Avery VanSickle extended the lead to 9-6 with 5:51 left. Both teams exchanged baskets until SFA's Faith Blackstone made three free throws on back-to-back fouls from Lamar, 14-10. Hope LeMelle drained a long three at the buzzer as the 'Jacks went into the first quarter break with a 17-12 lead.
SFA started the second quarter with a three-pointer from Ashlyn Traylor-Walker, 20-12 with 9:45 left in the first half. Lamar went on a 7-0 spurt to cut the deficit down to one, 20-19 with 7:36 left. Over the next three minutes, the 'Jacks went on a 9-2 run capped off by a three-pointer from Harmanie Dominguez, 29-21. Dominguez continued her hot streak with another three-pointer and a layup to extend the SFA lead, 34-23 with 37 seconds left in the first half. The Cardinals made a last second jumper and went into the locker room with a 34-25 deficit.
With 8:26 left in the third, SFA went on a 6-1 run to grow their lead to 42-30. Dominguez started another 6-0 run to take a commanding 50-37 lead with 3:52 left in the third. Lamar came storming back with a 6-3 run to bring the lead back down to 10, 53-43 with 51 seconds left. The Ladyjacks went into the fourth quarter with a 54-43 lead.
Both teams traded baskets until Lamar went on another 6-0 spurt to cut the deficit to seven, 58-51. Key Roseby stopped that run with a three-pointer to bring the lead back up to 10, 61-51 with 4:56. Over the next several minutes, the Cardinals went on a 7-2 run to cut the lead down to five, 63-58 with 2:24 left in the game. Both teams traded blows before Lamar came back with a 7-0 spurt to bring the game to one possession, 69-66 with 54 seconds left. Free throws from Blackstone and VanSickle ice the game as the 'Jacks secure a 72-66 win.
