Ladyjacks Fall to Lions in Commerce

Kaylinn Kemp sets new career high with a dominant 22 point, eight assist performance.
COMMERCE, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin women's basketball program returned from Christmas break to take a trip up to Commerce to face the East Texas A&M Lions.
With the score tied early at six, SFA went on an 8-0 run to take a 14-6 lead with 4:14 left in the first quarter. Clutch three-point shooting from the Lions in the last two minutes of the game, gave ETAMU a slim 19-18 lead into the first quarter break.
The Lions scored the first three points of the second quarter to extend their lead to 22-18. SFA got to within three after Kaylinn Kemp made two technical foul free throws, but the Ladyjacks would not make another basket for almost two minutes. A three-pointer from Kemp with a 1:42 left in the first half put SFA within one, 31-30. However, the Lions ended the second quarter on a five-point spurt and went into the locker room with a 36-30 lead.
ETAMU kept up the offensive pressure in the third quarter as they started on a 6-2 run that extended their lead to double digits, 42-32. SFA responded quickly with an 8-3 spurt to cut the lead to four, 45-41 with 6:20 left in the third. ETAMU made two baskets while SFA did not score another basket for two minutes. The Lions ended the third quarter on a 6-2 run to take a 10-point lead into the final quarter, 56-46.
In the fourth quarter, SFA slowly chipped away at the ETAMU lead and was able to get within four points on multiple occasions. With 2:11 left in the game, SFA made three driving layups in a row to tie the game up at 68. Defensively, the Ladyjacks held the Lions scoreless for 2:10 seconds while they went on their 6-0 run. With four seconds left, Reza Po made a jumper to give ETAMU a slim lead and then knocked down the dagger free throw with one second left. Harmanie Dominguez had a chance to tie the game and send it to overtime but it bounced off the front of the rim and out as the ETAMU Lions won the game by a score of 71-68.
