Senior cornerback receives another postseason invite as pro opportunities loom in 2026
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Senior cornerback Charles Demmings received another postseason bowl invite on Tuesday morning as his head coach Colby Carthel announced to the Lumberjacks following the morning's practice that Demmings has been invited to participate in the Panini Senior Bowl. The 2026 Panini Senior Bowl kicks off at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, from inside the University of South Alabama's Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile, Alabama.
One of just five Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) student-athletes to earn a spot on the Panini Senior Bowl Top 300 list prior to the 2025 season kicking off, Demmings earned an All-Southland Conference first-team plaudit as a key figure on one of the nation's top defenses. The Mesquite, Texas native took his rightful place atop the program's all-time list for passes defended with 35.
Highly touted and deservingly so, Demmings held the third-highest passes defended average (1.00) in Southland Conference games this season. He defended eight passes (3 INTs, 5 PBUs) including pass breakups in four games with two vs. McNeese. Demmings holds top 10 PFF metrics among all SLC cornerbacks in COV (78.2) and OVR DEF (78.1). A vocal leader, Demmings' presence has aided an SFA defense that ranks second in total defense in FCS along with a top three scoring defense and third down defense.
Tuesday's honor joins a November invite for Demmings to compete in the East-West Shrine Bowl.
