Senior cornerback honored on Tuesday morning with official invitation to college football’s oldest all-star game
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Surrounded by his teammates and coaches following Tuesday morning's practice, Stephen F. Austin senior cornerback Charles Demmings received his official invite to the East-West Shrine Bowl from Eric Galko, Shrine Bowl Director of Football Operations, Player Personnel. College football's oldest all-star game kicks off on January 27, 2026, at 6 p.m. from inside the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas.
Demmings, who shared his appreciation for his teammates upon accepting the honor, has played a lockdown role for a dominant Lumberjack defense through nine games this season. The Mesquite, Texas native has registered seven passes defended including two interceptions this season and has totaled 33 over his past four seasons as a Lumberjack. That career total is tied for the third most by an SFA defender in program history and he is two PBUs back of an all-time program record.
Through nine games, Demmings has been targeted two dozen times and has allowed just 11 receptions and one touchdown. Opposing quarterbacks have a passer rating of 44.4 when targeting the 6-1 corner.
In late July, Demmings was one of 51 student-athletes representing FCS programs and he was one of just four players from the Southland Conference to earn a spot on the East-West Shrine Bowl 1000 Watchlist joining Southeastern Louisiana's Kaleb Proctor (iDL), Incarnate Word's Jalen Walthall (WR) and East Texas A&M's Ike Ojukwu (OG).
