
Ladyjacks Secure Thanksgiving Win Over the Hampton Pirates in Puerto Rico

Sophomores Key Roseby and Cha Gardner led the charge for the ‘Jacks with 16 points from Roseby and a career high 16 rebounds from Gardner.
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico- The Stephen F. Austin women's basketball program began their Puerto Rico Clasico schedule against the Hampton Pirates on Thanksgiving morning.
The first quarter was tightly contested as neither team held more than a four point lead the entire quarter. A jumper from Hampton in the final five seconds cut the Ladyjack lead to two, 12-10.
Both teams traded baskets early in the second quarter before going on a three-minute scoring drought. Back-to-back layups from Hampton tied the game up at 16. SFA reponded with a 9-2 spurt to take a 25-18 lead that was capped off by a layup from Harmanie Dominguez with 3:02 left in the first half. Hampton made a three with under a minute to go to cut the deficit to two, but Myka Perry nailed all three of her free throws and Dominguez followed up with a layup with ten seconds to go to secure a 34-27 halftime lead for the 'Jacks.
SFA's offense started the third quarter on a hot streak with a 6-1 run to extend their lead to 40-28. After a tip in layup from the Pirates, the Ladyjacks went on 9-0 spurt to take a commanding 49-30 lead with 5:43 left in the third. Both teams traded baskets the rest of the quarter as the 'Jacks headed into the fourth quarter with a 53-39 lead.
After trading blows the first couple of minutes, Hampton went on a 5-0 spurt to cut the lead down to single digits, 58-49. Later in the quarter, the Pirates went on a 10-0 run to cut the deficit to four, 62-59 with one minute left in the game. SFA made five free throws down the stretch to secure a 67-61 win over the Hampton Pirates.
