Senior Linebacker earns recognition after fifth 11+ tackle effort of campaign
FRISCO, Texas - SFA senior linebacker Jaydon Southard received honorable mention Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors on Monday morning following the Lumberjacks' 34-7 win over Nicholls on Saturday.
Southard produced his fifth double-digit tackle outing of the season with 13 stops. Two of those went for loss as he increased his TFL count to 8.0 in 2025. Southard recovered a fumble at the Nicholls 10-yard line on the 15th play of the Colonels' opening drive and returned it for a touchdown, but a penalty partially negated the effort and set the offense up inside Nicholls territory.

The 'Jacks head to Commerce next Saturday to put its unbeaten SLC record on the line against East Texas A&M. The Lumberjacks and Lions meet for the 60th time in a series historically dominated by ETAM. The 'Jacks won three straight in the series before last season's 19-14 loss at Commerce where the SFA has won just three times in its previous 28 road efforts.
