
Ladyjacks Fall to Lady Lions at Home

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin women's basketball team (13-3, 3-2 SLC) finished up their four-game home stand with the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions (11-3, 5-0 SLC).
The Lions made the first basket of the game, but SFA responded with a three-pointer from Trinity Moore, 3-2. SLU went on an 8-0 run to give the Lady Lions a seven-point lead, 10-3. SFA went on a 7-0 spurt to tie the game up at 10 with 5:35 left in the first quarter. Both teams traded blows, but the Lady Lions went on a 10-0 run to take a commanding 23-12 lead with 1:36 left in the first. The Ladyjacks finished the first quarter on a 7-2 run to cut the lead down to six points, 25-19.
Southeastern Louisiana started off the second quarter with a three, but Faith Blackstone put the team on her back as she scored six straight points to bring the lead down to three, 28-25. SLU responded with a 6-0 run of their own, 34-25. Both teams traded baskets as SLU kept their lead for the rest of the quarter, but SFA shone in the final two minutes as Moore and Avery VanSickle hit back-to-back threes, 41-39.
Harmanie Dominguez came out on fire in the third as she scored all six points in the 'Jacks 6-2 run as SFA took a slim 45-43 lead with 8:43 left in the third. SLU went on an 11-0 run to retake the lead, 54-45. Later, SFA went on a 10-1 run that included two more three-pointers from Dominguez and cut the deficit down to one, 59-58. Dominguez would hit her fourth three-pointer of the quarter at the last second to keep the game within one, 63-62.
The fourth quarter was tightly contested as neither team held more than a three-point lead for most of the quarter. SFA retook the lead five times before SLU hit two free throws and a layup with 1:29 left in the game. The Lady Lions made another layup with 19 seconds left and iced the game with two free throws, 87-81.
