NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks women's basketball team (13-2, 3-1) close out their four-game homestand on Thursday evening at the Sawmill as they host the visiting Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions (10-3, 4-0).
Ladyjacks at a Glance:
The Ladyjacks have had no trouble carrying over their success from 2024 into 2025 as they have won their first two games of the new year and sport a six-game winning streak going into Thursday night at the Sawmill. The 'Jacks will look to keep their home record perfect as they hold a 6-0 home record this season and have scored at least 70 points in five of their six home games this season. The Ladyjacks offense has been pouring on the points recently both at home and on the road as they have scored at least 80 points in four of their last five games, while keeping two of their last three opponents to under 40 points defensively. Thus, the Ladyjacks seem to be finding their stride at the perfect time as their next two games will pit them against the two remaining undefeated teams in Southland Conference play in Southeastern and Lamar, as SFA looks to claim first place in the Southland.
Lady Lions at a Glance:
The Southland Conference leading Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions will kick-off a four-game road trip in Nacogdoches on Thursday night carrying no shortage of confidence themselves as they are winners of their last four games. The Lady Lions have won by double-digit point margins in three of those four games and have posted at least 75 points in three of the four games during this win streak. Southeastern Louisiana will carry a 4-2 away record into the Sawmill, with their only two road losses coming at the hands of Nebraska and University of Houston.
Scouting Report-Ladyjacks:
Faith Blackstone will look to carry over the momentum from her memorable day against the Incarnate Word Cardinals as she stuffed the stat sheet to post her first career Division I double-double with an 18-point, 11-rebound performance against the Cardinals. Avery VanSickle continues to make a name for herself nationally as she now leads the nation in three-point percentage, shooting a healthy 53.85 percent from beyond the arc. Ashlyn Traylor-Walker, Trinity Moore, and Key Roseby have crashed the boards all season long for the Ladyjacks to help form a three-headed rebounding monster as all three are tied for the team lead in rebounds with 77.
Scouting Report-Lady Lions:
Alexius Horne has been a do-it-all player for Southeastern this season as she leads the team in scoring with 15.2 points/game, is second on the team in assists with 39, and has drained a team-leading 15 three-pointers. Jalencia Pierre has been a fantastic two-way player for the Lady Lions as she leads the team in assists with 48, while also leading the defensive effort for Southeastern with 33 steals. Lexi Alexander has been a rebounding machine for the Lady Lions as she has pulled down a team-high 87 rebounds this season.
Series:
Thursday's home matchup for SFA will mark the 20th all-time meeting between these two Southland rivals with SFA leading the all-time series 18-1. SFA holds a perfect 10-0 home record against the Lady Lions in the series history.
