NACOGDOCHES, Texas- Head Coach Debbie Humphreys has named Alex Holt as Assistant Coach. Holt joins the Ladyjack staff after spending the past three seasons as an assistant coach and served as the recruiting coordinator for two seasons at Louisiana Tech.
"I am so excited to join the SFA Volleyball program and Nacogdoches community," said Holt. "Thank you to coach Debbie Humphreys for the opportunity to join the legendary Ladyjack Volleyball family and trusting me to be part of the continued success of such a storied program. The strong tradition of personal, academic, and competitive excellence is second to none and I look forward to getting to work."
"We are excited to have Alex Holt join our VB staff at SFA," said Head Coach Debbie Humphreys. "She is a great fit for our program and will be someone the girls can really relate to. She has good experience in on-court training, relationship building and recruiting. I had an opportunity to work with Alex at a summer camp and the things that are important to her are right in line with our program. Alex will work closely with our middles and right sides, and I look forward to watching them grow throughout the upcoming semester."
The 2024 season saw Holt orchestrate one of the best blocking performances in over a decade. The Bulldogs finished the year with 216.5 total blocks, the most since 2010. The 319 block assists were the most by a Tech team since 2009. She developed Charlize Williams into one of the best middle blockers in program history. Williams tied the program record with 1.24 blocks per set and ranked tied for fifth with 128 total blocks. She also oversaw the development of freshman Rori Gray into a Conference USA All-Freshman season.
LA Tech carried the momentum from the 2022 season into 2023 and qualified for their first Conference USA Tournament in program history. Under Holt's guidance, the Bulldogs finished with 277 block assists, the most since the 2019 season.
Her presence was felt in year one with the program as LA Tech built momentum after registering 11 wins, the most since 2019. Four of those came against Conference USA action, including two 3-0 sweeps of Charlotte and UTSA, to match the most CUSA victories in a single season since 2016. The team came one win shy of qualifying for the CUSA Tournament for the first time in program history, a goal they are set out to do in 2023. Holt was responsible for helping develop the Bulldogs blocking game that finished the season with 216 total blocks, their most since 2010, and 110 solo blocks, the sixth most in a single season in program history.
Prior to her time in Ruston, Holt served as an assistant coach at Cisco College from 2020-2022. She played for the Pacific Tigers from 2014-2019 for both the indoor and beach volleyball teams. Holt was named the team captain in her final season with the Tigers. In her senior season, she played in all 29 matches and finished her career with 399 kills and 167 total blocks.
The Sacramento, California native graduated with a bachelor's degree in social sciences and a minor in teaching professions in 2018. She received her master's degree in the fall of 2019 in educational and organizational leadership from Pacific.
