
Six Ladyjacks Finish in Double Figures as SFA Dismantles ETAMU

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin women's basketball team (16-5, 6-4 SLC) hosted the East Texas A&M Lions (4-14, 1-8 SLC) in a game that was postponed from last Thursday due to weather across the Southland.
SFA started off hot with a 6-0 run before ETAMU came back with back-to-back two pointers to cut the lead down to two, 6-4. Both teams traded baskets for the next couple of minutes before the Ladyjacks went on an incredible 15-0 run to take a commanding 22-6 lead with 2:23 left in the first quarter. The Lions only scored two more baskets the rest of the quarter while the 'Jacks scored five points, capped off by a last second layup from Key Roseby.
Both teams traded blows for the first couple of minutes of the second quarter until ETAMU went on a 6-0 spurt to cut the lead down to 12, 32-20 with 6:21 left in the first half. A three-point play by Avery VanSickle followed by threes from Harmanie Dominguez and VanSickle extended the SFA lead to 41-20 with 4:12 left in the second. Both teams continued to trade baskets the rest of the first half and SFA went into the locker room with a 50-29 lead.
The third quarter began with a quick 9-2 run for the 'Jacks, 59-31 with 6:55 left. A minute later ETAMU went on a 5-3 spurt to cut the deficit down to 63-38. The SFA offense got going again with a 6-0 run before the Lions responded with a 5-0 spurt, 69-43 with 2:03 left in the third. The Ladyjacks capped off the third with a three-pointer from Hope LeMelle and headed to the fourth quarter with a 74-43 lead.
Both teams continued to knockdown baskets as the 'Jacks caught fire with 7:44 on the clock as they went on an 8-0 run, 85-47. ETAMU responded with a seven-point spurt to cut the lead down to 85-54 with 3:39 left in the game. The Lions finished the game on an 11-7 run, but the SFA offense was too much as they ran away with a 92-65 win.
