NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack women's basketball team (14-5, 4-4) open up their short two-game homestand on Saturday afternoon against Southland rival Northwestern State University (8-8, 5-2) in a purple out game at the Sawmill.
Ladyjacks at a Glance:
The Ladyjacks will be looking to get back to their usual winning ways on Thursday night, and continue to show that they're still a handful for opposing teams. A large reason the Ladyjacks can never be counted out a game is due to their high-powered quick-strike offense that boasts a Southland best 80.6 points/game, which ranks them 21st in the nation as a team. The Ladyjacks now return home to the friendly confines of the Sawmill where they have been an even tougher challenge for visiting teams as they have posted a 6-1 home record this year, and have scored over 80 points in five of their seven home games this year.
Lady Demons at a Glance:
The Northwestern State Lady Demons will be looking to also get back in the win column as their five-game win streak was snapped on Saturday at the hands of the Southeastern Louisiana Lions. The Lady Demons now hit the road for a pair of conference games that starts Thursday in Beaumont when they square off with Lamar, before finishing the road trip on Saturday in Nacogdoches against the Ladyjacks. The Lady Demons will be looking to improve their 2-6 road record in which they played road matches against no. 7 ranked LSU, Texas A&M, and North Texas during non-conference play, before winning five of their first six conference games over the past three weeks.
Scouting Report-Ladyjacks:
Faith Blackstone and Ashlyn Traylor-Walker continue to work in tandem with each other offensively as Blackstone has been a scoring machine recently, recording double-digit points in nine of her last 10 games, while Traylor-Walker has been just as dominating as she has tallied double-digit point scoring efforts in eight of her last nine contest. Meanwhile, Avery VanSickle and Harmanie Dominguez continue to be lethal from beyond the arc as the Ladyjacks premier deep shooting threats as they have teamed up to knock down 95 three-pointers on the season.
Scouting Report-Lady Demons:
Vernell Atamah, Mya Blake, and Sharna Ayres have formed a workhorse trio for the Lady Demons this year as all three have started all 16 games for Northwestern State while all averaging over double-digit points/game. Atamah leads the way with her 15.1 points/game, while Blake follows closely behind with her 14.4 points/game average. Ayres rounds out the trio as she averages 10.8 points/game, while Ayres and Blake have formed a solid shooting duo from deep for the Lady Demons as they have combined for 65 three-pointers this year.
Series:
Saturday's purple out home matchup for SFA will feature the 59th all-time meeting in this historic Southland rivalry chapter. SFA leads the all-time series 43-15 and have won the previous nine meetings between these two Southland foes, including the last meeting in 2021 when they posted a commanding 114-58 victory over the Lady Demons.

Lions at a Glance:
