
Ladyjacks Fall to the Colonels

THIBODAUX, La.- The Stephen F. Austin women's basketball team (14-5, 4-4 SLC) stayed in Louisiana to matchup with the Nicholls Colonels (11-6, 4-4 SLC).
Both teams' offenses were clicking early in the game, but neither team held more than a three-point lead until Ituau Tuisaula knocked down a three for the 'Jacks with 1:59 left in the first quarter, 19-15. With 1:08 left on the clock, Faith Blackstone drained a three to extend the SFA lead, 22-17. Right before the quarter ended the Colonel knocked down a three-pointer to cut the deficit down to four, 24-20.
The 'Jacks started out the second quarter on a 6-3 run to extend their lead to seven, 30-23. Nicholls came back with a 5-0 spurt that cut the lead down to two, 30-28. SFA scored the next four points to take a 34-28 lead with 6:17 left in the second quarter. Both teams continued to trade baskets for the rest of the quarter, but the 'Jacks were able to maintain a seven-point lead as they headed into the locker room with a 46-39 lead.
Neither team was willing to give an inch to start the third as both offenses traded baskets until a five-point run by Nicholls brought the Colonels within two points, 52-50. Nicholls retook the lead with 1:41 left in the third, 55-54. SFA responded with a three from Blackstone and a layup from Hope LeMelle as they headed to the fourth quarter with a 59-55 lead.
SFA started the fourth on a 5-2 run to extend their lead, 64-57 with 8:08 left in the game. With 6:08 left in the fourth, Nicholls went on a 12-0 run and held a significant five-point lead with 47 seconds left in the game. A three from Harmanie Dominguez with 13 seconds left gave the Ladyjacks life, but a made free throw from Nicholls sealed the game, 75-71.
