
Ladyjacks Finish Borderlands Invitational Against Host UTEP

EL PASO, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin volleyball team (5-2) finished out the Borderlands Invitational against host UTEP (5-1) on Saturday afternoon.
SFA was looking to rebound after SLU completed the reverse sweep on the 'Jacks Friday evening. The 'Jacks jumped out to a 6-3 lead against the Miners. SFA would continue to hold a slim lead, but UTEP rattled off a four-point run to take an 11-9 lead. SFA tied the set back up at 13 and later took a 16-15 lead off of a kill by Molly Cravens. However, the Miners scored the last five point of the set to pick up a 25-19 first set victory.
The teams traded blows early on in the second set as neither team held more than a two-point lead until UTEP's four-point spurt which put them up 13-8. UTEP extended their lead with another four-point run later in the set which put them up 22-13. The Miners went on to win the second set by a score of 25-15.
UTEP jumped out to an early 5-1 lead over SFA in the third set. However, the 'Jacks would not go away quickly as they had four three-point mini runs and took a 22-17 lead after Jayden Flynn's 100th career ace and a kill from Harley Krause. Camryn Hill recorded the final kill of the third set and secured a 25-20 third set victory for the Ladyjacks.
In the fourth set, both teams fought for every single point as neither team led by more than two point until the middle of the set where UTEP went on a 7-1 run to take a commanding 14-7 lead. SFA fought back with a 6-1 run to cut the lead down to three after two kills from Krause and another ace from Flynn. The UTEP offense would not be denied as they secured a 3-1 victory after winning the fourth set by a score of 25-18.

The Ladyjacks will head back to Nacogdoches before traveling to Tulsa, Oklahoma for the Tulsa Volleyball Invitational where they will open up the tournament with Oklahoma on Thursday, September 12th at 4:00 p.m.
