
SFA Loses 75-64 on Road to Texans

STEPHENVILLE, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks traveled down the road to face the Tarleton Texans. This was SFA's first road game in their last four contests. SFA lost their second game of the season to Tarleton after falling 75-64. The Lumberjacks fell to 13-9 overall and 6-5 in conference play.
The 'Jacks struggled to find rhythm on both sides of the ball to begin the first half. SFA turned the ball over seven times and allowed the Texans to open the game with a 18-2 run. After putting on a career scoring performance in his previous game against Utah Valley, Jalil Beaubrun posted seven of the Lumberjack's first 17 points.
SFA went on their own 16-3 run to take a 28-27 lead over TSU with 4:52 remaining in the first half. Latrell Jossell caught fire in the last ten minutes of the first half. He scored 13 of the last 15 points for the Lumberjacks.
Stephen F. Austin entered halftime down 33-32 after being down 18-4 early in the first half. SFA shot 12-for-28 (42.9%) from the field and outrebounded TSU 19-10. The Texans shot 12-for-23 (52.2%) from the field and 4-for-10 (40%) from the three-point line.
Tarleton stole the ball 10 times and forced SFA into 12 first half turnovers. The 'Jacks forced the Texans into nine turnovers. Latrell Jossell was the game's leading scorer in the first half with his 13 points. He shot 4-for-6 (66.6%) from the field and 1-for-2 (50%) from the three-point line. Jossell also led the 'Jacks with his two steals.
Both teams were held scoreless through the first two minutes of the second half, until the Texans knocked down back-to-back threes to take a 39-32 lead. With 10 minutes remaining in the second half SFA trailed 52-44. The 'Jacks were unable to get much going throughout the entirety of the second half and lost their second game of the season to the Texans.
SFA's scoring was led by Latrell Jossell's 23 points on 7-for-9 from the field and 3-for-4 from the three-point line. He also added a team high four steals. Jalil Beaubrun was SFA's only other scorer in double figures was Jalil Beaubrun with 15. Beaubrun shot 5-for-8 from the field and 2-for-3 from the three-point line.
The Lumberjacks shot 21-for-51 (41.2%) from the field and 6-for-19 (31.6%) from the three-point line. Tarleton had three players with at least 15 points and three steals. The Texans forced SFA into 20 turnovers and had 16 steals.
Stephen F. Austin will be back at home on February 8th. They will be facing off against the UTRGV Vaqueros for the second time this season. The last matchup between UTRGV and SFA resulted in an 85-78 win for the Lumberjacks.
