Lumberjacks Complete Regular Season Sweep over Vaqueros

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks completed their regular season sweep of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros with a 92-84 win at the William R. Johnson Coliseum.  SFA improved to 14-9 overall and 7-5 in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).  UTRGV dropped to 6-17 overall and 2-10 in WAC play.  The 'Jacks defeated the Vaqueros 85-78 on January 4 at UTRGV.

With 11:57 in the second half UTRGV took their first lead (62-60) since being up 2-0 at the beginning of the game.  SFA would go on a 19-6 run of their own to reclaim an 83-70 lead with 2:53 left in the second half.  Latrell Jossell closed out the game with his free throws as he finished 8-for-8 from the line and a 92-84 win.

Kimahri Wilson's layup put the Lumberjacks up 19-12 with a little under ten minutes to play in the first half.  Chrishawn Christmas' cashed in on his three-point play at the free throw line and gave SFA their first double-digit lead of the night.

Nana Antwi-Boasiako led the Lumberjacks early on with his 10 points off the bench.  SFA's biggest lead of the first half was 17 points.  The 'Jacks entered halftime with a 47-36 lead over the Vaqueros, following back-to-back threes from Matt Hayman.

SFA was led by Latrell Jossell's 12 points on 5-for-6 shooting from the field and 2-for-3 from the three-point line in the first half.  Nana also finished 5-for-6 from the field with 10 points.  The 'Jacks shot 21-for-36 (58.3%) from the field and 4-for-9 (44.4%) from the three-point line.

The Lumberjack defense was led by Latrell Jossell's two steals and Clayton Southwick's one block.  SFA had five steals and forced the Vaqueros into 10 first half turnovers.

Clayton Southwick got the second half scoring started for SFA as he had four of the Lumberjack's first six points.  Southwick tied his career high in points with his eight. Through the first seven minutes of the second half SFA was outscored 19-13.

SFA won 92-84 and completed the regular season series sweep over the Vaqueros.  The 'Jacks finished the game with three scorers in double digits.  Latrell Jossell (24), Matt Hayman (15), and Nana Antwi-Boasiako (12) were SFA's leading scorers.

Latrell Jossell was named Pilgrim's Player of the Game after he grabbed a team high 24 points.  He has scored 20 points in three of his last four games and has scored 10 or more points in six straight games.  Jossell shot 7-for-12 from the field and 2-for-4 from the three-point line.  He also led the Lumberjacks defensively with three steals.  It was his third straight three-steal game.

The Lumberjacks shot 37-for-68 (54.4%) from the field and forced 14 turnovers. The 'Jacks outrebounded UTRGV 39-26.  The 'Jacks also posted 18 assists to the Vaqueros 10.

Stephen F. Austin is back on the road but will stay in the state of Texas as they travel down the road to face UT-Arlington.  Tip-off is set for Saturday, February 10th at 2:00 p.m.
