
Ladyjacks Sweep Tigers to Advance to Super Sixteen

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin volleyball team (24-8, 14-2 SLC) faced off against the Jackson State Tigers (19-12, 13-3 SWAC) in a rematch of the 2021 NIVC Round One matchup.
SFA started off with back-to-back points to get the home crowd going early in the first set. Jackson State tied it up at two before SFA went on a 6-1 run to take a commanding 8-3 lead. Eventually, JSU cut the lead down to two with a kill to make it 10-8, but the SFA offense quickly made it a five-point game with a kill from Jones and a kill and ace from Caroline Kahle, 13-8. Later, the Tigers went on a five-point spurt to cut the deficit to one, 16-15. However, the Ladyjacks went on another three-point spurt which included back-to-back kills from Creecy to bring their lead back up to four, 19-15. SFA scored six of the final nine points of the set and secured a 25-18 first set victory off a kill from Jones.
The Ladyjacks jumped out to a 4-1 lead early in the second set. Both teams traded points until SFA went on a five-point run which had back-to-back-to-back kills from Jones and back-to-back kills from Jordan Henderson, 14-6. Jackson State came back with a four-point spurt to cut the lead down to four, 14-10. SFA would not be denied as they went on an 8-0 run to take a commanding 23-11 lead which included two kills from Katherine Holtman and Creecy, one from Jones, and back-to-back aces from Guerrero. The Ladyjacks would then finish off the set with an ace from Harley Krause to secure a 25-12 second set victory.
The third set was tightly contested early on as neither team held more than a two-point lead until SFA went on a four-point run to take a 7-4 lead. Later the 'Jacks went on another four-point spurt to take a 12-7 lead. Both teams were successful in siding out a majority of the set, but the SFA offense shined once again with a five-point spurt to take a commanding 23-12 lead. Holtman put the finishing touches on the sweep with an ace to secure a 25-14 third set victory for the 'Jacks.
