
Chris Campos Named A Finalist For The Fred Mitchell Award

NACOGDOCHES, TX - Stephen F. Austin (SFA) kicker Chris Campos has been named as a finalist for the 2024 Fred Mitchell Award, presented annually to a collegiate kicker recognizing exceptional placekicking and community service. The selection committee is comprised of former NFL and college kickers, previous award winners, as well as prominent businessmen and community-minded individuals.
The Nacogdoches, Texas native was 51-for-51 on PAT attempts this season and 18-for-21on field goals. Campos became the Lumberjacks All-Time leader in PATs made (207), points (465), and field goals made (86). Chris finished his SFA career tied for second All-Time in the FCS in career field goals made with 86.
Campos was named first-team Southland All-Conference and earned honorable mention Southland Player-of-the Week honors two times in 2024 for games vs. Northwestern State and Northern Colorado University.
The winner of the award will be announced next week when Fred Mitchell appears on WSCR-AM 670 during the Mully & Haugh morning sports talk radio show in Chicago. The trophy will be presented to the winner on Feb. 17th, 2025, during the annual National Football Foundation Chicago Chapter ceremony at Halas Hall in Lake Forrest, Il.
The top 10 finalists for the 2024 Fred Mitchell Award were announced by co-chairman Rob Perry and Matt Cotiguala.
In alphabetical order, the finalists are Chris Campos from Stephen F. Austin, Christian Casillas (College of Dupage), Johan Edwards (Evangel University), Dieter Kelley (College of San Mateo), Gabe Panikowski (Idaho State), DC Pippin (Southeast Missouri State), Hunter Ridley (Sacramento State), Zach Schreiner (Cal-Davis), Seth Simpson (Baker University), And Mathias Uribe (Portland State).
The annual Fred Mitchell Outstanding Place-Kicker Award (also known as the Fred Mitchell Award) is provided to the nation's top collegiate place-kicker among more than 750 FCS, Division II, III, NAIA and NJCAA football teams. The selection committee is comprised of former NFL and college kickers, previous award winners, as well as prominent businessmen and community-minded individuals.
