
Ladyjacks Suffer First Loss of the Season in Battle Against Red Raiders

LUBBOCK, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin women's basketball team (7-1, 0-0 SLC) headed to Lubbock for a mid-week matchup against the Red Raiders (9-1, 0-0 Big 12).
Both offenses struggled to get going early on, but Texas Tech went on a 9-0 run to take an 11-2 lead with 5:50 left in the first quarter. Avery VanSickle hit a three to cut the lead down to six with 4:06 left, 13-6. Both teams traded free throws as neither offense could get in rhythm, but the Red Raiders held a 16-9 lead. Texas Tech went into the first quarter break with a 17-12 lead.
Texas Tech started off the second quarter with two quick three-pointers to extend their lead to double digits, 23-12. Both teams traded baskets throughout most of the quarter until the Red Raiders went on a 5-0 run to take a 37-23 lead. Faith Blackstone finished out the first half with two free throws as the 'Jacks went into the locker room down 37-25.
SFA came out of the locker room with a quick 7-0 run to cut the lead back down to five with 8:40 left in the third quarter. TTU came back with back-to-back threes to bring their lead back up to 11, 43-32. Two minutes later the Red Raiders would go on another 6-0 spurt to take a commanding 53-34 lead. SFA would not go down without a fight as they finished the quarter on a 5-0 run thanks to a layup from Harmanie Dominguez and a jumper from Trinity Moore, 62-45.
Dominguez hit a quick three to begin the fourth quarter, before Blackstone hit a layup and a three to bring the TTU lead back down to 11, 64-53. Both teams traded baskets throughout the quarter until the Ladyjacks went on a five-point spurt to cut the deficit down to eight, 74-66. However, Texas Tech was able to ice the game on a couple of free throws to secure a 78-68 victory.
