NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks basketball Team (2-2, 0-0) return home for a three-game homestand to tip-off the first ever Axe'Em Classic weekend against the Presbyterian College Blue Hose (2-3, 0-0).
Lumberjacks at a Glance:
The Lumberjacks get set to host the first ever Axe'Em Classic presented by Etech. In their last game, the 'Jacks lost a defensive battle on the road to the Arkansas State Red Wolves, 59-49. SFA now returns home to the friendly confines of the Sawmill to open a three-game homestand where they hold a perfect 2-0 record this season and have recorded double-digit point wins in both games, while scoring at least 85 points in both wins. In their last home game, the 'Jacks pulled away late from LeTourneau in an eventual 87-68 win.
Blue Hose at a Glance:
The Presbyterian College Blue Hose begin a lengthy stretch of road games when they travel to Nacogdoches as it will mark the first of six consecutive road games for the Blue Hose. The Blue Hose hold a 2-3 record on the year and includes a win in their home opener scoring 120 points against Carolina Christian and played 2024 Final Four participant NC State competitively, losing by nine points to the Wolfpack.

The Monmouth Hawks travel to the Pineywoods looking for their first win of the 2024-25 campaign as they get set to play six straight games away from home. The Hawks have had their fair share of competition early in the season as they have played Michigan State, Temple, Northern Illinois, Rutgers, and Wichita State in their first five games this season. In their last game, the Hawks fell just short of a win against the Wichita State Shockers in a 70-66 loss.

Friday evening at the Sawmill will feature another first ever meeting as Monmouth and SFA tip-off their all-time series against each other with the first meeting between the two teams.

Penguins at a Glance:
The Youngstown State University Penguins travel to Nacogdoches for the Axe' Em Classic and close out a six-game road trip. The Penguins have faced stiff competition to begin their season, playing games against Ohio State and Syracuse over their last two games. In their last game, the Penguins fell in an offensive shootout to the Syracuse Orange as the two teams combined for 199 points, with the Orange coming out on top with a 104-95 victory over the Penguins.

Saturday evening's Axe'Em Classic finale will also feature the first time Youngstown State and SFA have squared off with each other.
Scouting Report:
Matt Hayman and Chris Johnson have formed a dynamic scoring offensive duo for the Lumberjacks as both average over 10 points per game this season. Nana Antwi-Boasiako has been a rebounding machine for SFA as he leads the team with 34 rebounds and averages 8.5 boards per game this season. Chrishawn Christmas has been a defensive juggernaut for SFA this year as he is second on the team in steals with 10 and leads the team in blocks with three to go along with 28 rebounds.
Kobe Stewart leads the Blue Hose offense as he averages 15.8 points/game. Kory Mincy has been a solid outside shooter for Presbyterian College this season as he has drained 12 triples and currently averages 14.8 points per game. Mincy has been just as solid defensively, leading the team with eight steals, while Jonah Pierce has blocked a team-high seven shots.
Abdi Bashir Jr. has been the MVP of the Hawks offense averaging a healthy 21.6 points/game for Monmouth draining 20 three-pointers on the year. Madison Durr has formed a nice compliment to Bashir Jr. averaging 13.0 points/game while leading the Hawks in steals with eight and has made 30 free-throws on the season.
The Penguins offense is led by a three-headed offense as Nico Galette spearheads the Penguins offense with his 15.0 points per game. Meanwhile, EJ Farmer and Ty Harper have formed a dynamic duo as both average over 12 points/game for Youngstown State. Gabe Dynes leads the defensive effort with his 10 blocks on the season.
