FORT WORTH, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin soccer team (14-4-2, 8-2-0 SLC) faced off against the TCU Horned Frogs (17-3-2, 9-0-2 Big 12) in a Friday night matchup for the First Round of the NCAA Tournament.
In SFA's first tournament appearance since 2012, the 'Jacks fought tooth and nail with the Frogs. Keeper, Sierra McCluer was a brick wall as she recorded four saves in the first 28 minutes. In the 29th minute, the Horned Frogs were awarded a penalty kick, but McCluer saved the PK attempt and the ensuing rebound shot which sent the Lumberjack faithful into an eruption of cheers. However, the Lumberjack offense was stymied as they recorded no shot in the first half but entered the locker room with the match tied at zero.
Neither team was willing to give an inch as both defenses stood tall against the offensive attack. Lily Hargrove recorded the first shot for the 'Jacks in the 53rd minute, but it was saved by the TCU keeper. In the 57th minute, TCU was awarded another penalty kick that they were able to convert and take a 1-0 lead. SFA continued to press the ball into the offensive zone but were unable to get shots on the TCU keeper and the score of 1-0 stood for the rest of the game.
