JONESBORO, Ark.- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks Basketball Team (2-1, 0-0) is back on the road for their next game as they travel to Arkansas for a Saturday afternoon battle with the Arkansas State Red Wolves (2-1, 0-0).
Lumberjacks at a Glance:
The Lumberjacks will be searching for their first road win of the season on Saturday coming off a strong home win over the visiting LeTourneau Yellowjackets. Both Lumberjacks wins this season have come at home and both wins have been by double-digit points as the 'Jacks were able to pull away late from the Yellowjackets at the Sawmill. In the win over LeTourneau, the Lumberjacks were efficient on offense as they shot exactly 50 percent from the field, 38 percent from beyond the arc, and 73 percent from the free-throw line. Another strong day in the paint helped propel SFA to a victory as they posted 40 points in the paint, their second game this season totaling over 40 points inside.
Red Wolves at a Glance:
The Red Wolves are in the midst of a three-game homestand that saw them open the homestand with an 80-63 victory over Little Rock on Tuesday. Arkansas State has already had their fair share of competition early in the season as they squared off with No. 2 ranked Alabama on November 8th and went toe-to-toe with the Crimson Tide on their home court but fell just short of an upset in an eventual 88-79 loss. In their latest win over Little Rock, the Red Wolves shot 37 percent from the field, made 13 three-pointers, and shot 63 percent from the free-throw line.
Scouting Report:
Juhlawnei Stone was a rebounding machine for SFA against LeTourneau as he posted a career-high 10 boards in the win. Keith Lamar found his step offensively as he posted a team-high 17 points in the win, while Chris Johnson continues to be a consistent offensive threat for SFA as he posted his double-digit scoring night as he finished with 10 points. Nana Antwi-Boasiako fell just short of a double-double against LeTourneau as he finished with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Matt Hayman continues to be a defensive juggernaut as he led the team with four steals, the second time he has recorded four steals in a game this season, in addition to his 14 points.
Kobe Julien leads the Arkansas State offense with his 16.7 points/game average while also leading the team in steals with six and is second on the team in blocks with four. Taryn Todd has formed a nice scoring duo with Julien as he currently averages 14.7 points/game, while Terrance Ford Jr. leads the team with 15 assists. Meanwhile, Rashaud Marshall has been a constant rebounding threat for the Red Wolves as he has 30 rebounds on the year and averages 10 rebounds/game.
Series:
Saturday afternoon's midday matchup will feature just the second time these two schools have faced-off with each other. SFA has won the only other matchup between the two teams when they claimed a 76-57 road win over Arkansas State in 2019.
