
Ladyjacks Overcome 15-Point Deficit at ACU; VanSickle Leads Team with 23 Points

ABILENE, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin women's basketball team (2-0, 0-0 SLC) hit the road to face off against former WAC rival Abilene Christian (2-1, 0-0 WAC).
SFA took a 3-0 lead off a layup from Faith Blackstone and a free throw from Ashlyn Traylor-Walker. ACU tied it up on a three-pointer and then both teams traded baskets until the Wildcats went on a 9-0 run which gave them a 12-5 lead with 4:27 left in the first quarter. SFA continued to fight but ACU scored the last three points of the quarter to take a 20-12 lead heading into the first quarter break.
In the second quarter the Wildcats went on a 6-2 run to extend their lead to 26-14. ACU continued to slowly add to their lead to 15 with 5:12 left in the second quarter. SFA was able to cut the lead down to ten heading into the locker room after a layup from Avery VanSickle, 42-32.
The Wildcats began the third quarter with a 7-2 run that extended their lead, 49-34. SFA went 8-0 run with layups from Cha Gardner, VanSickle, and Traylor-Walker, 49-42. Both teams continued to trade blows until SFA went on a nine-point run to tie the game at 53. The Ladyjacks outscored the Wildcats 26-11 in the third quarter to begin their comeback.
Both teams had to fight for every basket as neither team had more than a two-point lead until Key Roseby tipped in a layup to put the 'Jacks up 64-61 with two minutes left in the game. ACU cut the deficit to one after two made free throws, 64-63. Then the Wildcats made two more to take a slim 65-64 lead with 1:05 left. With 37 seconds left, Faith Blackstone hit a jumper to put SFA up 66-65. VanSickle sealed the game for the 'Jacks as she hit both of her free throws for a three-point lead with 14 seconds left.
