
Lumberjacks will Play No. Five TCU Horned Frogs in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin soccer team (14-3-2, 8-2-0 SLC) is set to continue their momentum in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament as they head to Fort Worth to take on the no. five seeded TCU Horned Frogs (16-3-2, 9-0-2 Big 12) on Friday, November 15th at 7:00 p.m. central time.
SFA has played TCU ten times and the Horned Frogs hold a 7-2-1 record with the most recent meeting was on September 17th, 2023 where TCU won 3-1. This will be SFA's fourth appearance in the NCAA Tournament and their first since 2012 when the 'Jacks played at Texas A&M and lost 1-0.
This season has been a complete turnaround for the 'Jacks after last season where the team finished with a 2-14-2 record and were outscored 9-59. SFA saw a 12 win improvement and outscored their opponents 60-9 which tied the record for the most goals scored in a single season. Coach Ben Williams was named Southland Coach of the Year, five 'Jacks earned Southland Superlatives, seven were named First Team All-Southland, one was named Second Team All-Southland, and six were named to All-Tournament team including Jayme Bailey who was named Tournament MVP. Ella and Erin Morgan also made Southland history becoming the first sister duo to score a goal in the same tournament match in SFA's 3-1 quarterfinal win over UTRGV. Nationally, SFA has the second highest goal differential, third lowest goals against average, third highest scoring offense, and the third most goals scored this season.
