ABILENE, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks Basketball Team (1-0, 0-0) hits the road for the first time this season when they travel to Abilene to square off with former WAC rival Abilene Christian (2-0, 0-0) in an early Tuesday morning matchup.
Ladyjacks at a Glance:
The SFA Ladyjacks will look to build off their dominating season opening win against the Texas Southern Tigers in which SFA came away with a 86-45 win. The win was largely fueled by 18 made three-pointers by the Ladyjacks which set a new SFA record for most made three-pointers in a single game. The Ladyjacks shot 48% from the field, 46% from beyond the arc, and shot a perfect 100% from the free-throw line in the win. SFA virtually never trailed in the commanding win as they only trailed once when the Tigers took a slim 4-3 lead early in the first quarter before taking control of the game from that moment onwards.
Wildcats at a Glance:
The ACU Wildcats will be looking to keep the win rolling in on Tuesday morning as they are 2-0 on the season, fresh off a 76-73 win over Florida International on Friday. The win over Florida International featured plenty of back-and-forth action as the score was tied on 10 different occasions, while the lead changed hands between the two schools 10 different times as well. ACU shot 41% from the field, 38% from downtown, and 83% from the charity stripe in the win.
Scouting Report:
Six different Ladyjacks finished in double figures for SFA in their home opener and were led by Faith Blackstone's 18 points. Avery VanSickle followed closely behind Blackstone as she drained a team-high five three-pointers en route to a 17-point performance. Key Roseby followed up with a 15-point game herself, while Harmaine Dominguez posted 12 points, and Ashlyn Traylor and Trinity Moore dropped 10 points each.
Bella Earle has been on a scoring tear for the Wildcats as she averages 22 points/game to begin this season, while both Payton Hull and Emma Troxell are averaging over 15 points/game each. Meanwhile, Natalie Chavez rounds out the top scorers for ACU with her 12.5 points/game average.
Series:
Tuesday morning's matchup will continue the rivalry between these two former WAC foes as SFA leads the all-time series 16-3 over ACU. The Lumberjacks have won the last eight meetings between the two schools including winning an 89-83 double overtime thriller over ACU last season on the road.
