Elkana Kipruto Wins SLC Runner of the Week

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- Stephen F. Austin men's cross-country runner Elkana Kipruto receives Southland Conference runner of the week this week.
Freshman Elkana Kipruto competed in his first meet at the Chile Pepper Invitational last weekend and posted a new school record in the 8k race. Elkana finished second in a stacked field with a time of 23:19 and crushed the previous record held by Charles Mathenge of 23:45 by 26 seconds.
Kipruto also helped lead the 'Jacks to a 6th place finish which was the highest finish for the men's team in over 10 years.
"Elly's performance at Chile Pepper was a bit legendary," said Head Coach Rob Hansen. "This was his first competition not only at SFA but in the USA and he went out and finished second in a very talented competition field. He put himself in a great position early and ran without fear or hesitation. He's a true competitor and a great teammate as well."
