ARLINGTON, Texas. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks Basketball Team (9-5, 3-0) continues their conference play when they stay in-state by traveling to Arlington to square off with the UTA Mavericks (5-8, 1-2) for their second road conference game of the season.
Ladyjacks at a Glance:
Stephen F. Austin will have little time to bask in their last 79-69 home win over conference rival UTRGV, as they will travel to Arlington just two days later for an afternoon show-down with UTA. In their win over the Vaqueros on Thursday, SFA led the Mavericks in assists (8-7), rebounds (50-40), blocks (4-3), steals (13-9), field goal percentage (40.6%-34.4%), free-throw percentage (76.0%-66.7%), points in the paint (34-26), points off turnovers (18-16), second chance points (19-13), and fast-break points (13-5).
Zoe Nelson led the way for SFA scoring as she put together a career-day for the Ladyjacks on Thursday. Nelson recorded a new career-high of 21 points against the Vaqueros, while tying a career-high in rebounds by pulling down 15, to finish as the only Ladyjack with a double-double. Four other Ladyjacks joined Nelson in the scoring frenzy as Lydia Cooke-Wiggins had a strong second-half and proved to be clutch down the stretch for SFA as she went a perfect 9/9 from the free-throw line in route to 13 points. Destini Lombard continued to flash her versatility for SFA as she had 13 points, while leading the Ladyjack defense with five steals. Kurstyn Harden and Tyler McCliment-Call formed a dynamic duo for SFA against UTRGV as they each pulled down eight rebounds apiece, while both recorded at least two steals, one assist, and 10+ points each.
SFA currently ranks first overall in the WAC in Total Scoring, while ranking third overall in Field Goal Percentage, and second overall in Total Rebounds. In addition, the Ladyjacks also rank second in free-throw percentage, scoring margin, rebound margin, and turnover margin, while ranking first overall in both steals and assists as a team.
