
SFA Hosts GCU in Battle for WAC's Top Spot

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks continue their four-game homestand on Thursday, January 25 against the Grand Canyon University Lopes. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. CT at the William R. Johnson Coliseum. This is the second game of SFA's four-game home stand.
Thursday night's game vs GCU is Cram The Coliseum night featuring the top two teams in the WAC standings. The first 250 people in attendance to Thursday's game vs. GCU will receive a Rope Hat. The Lumberjack Eats Concessions Team is continuing its Game Day Specials adding a beer brat with grilled onions and sauerkraut for $9 to the concession menu.
Series History:
SFA is currently 2-1 in the series against Grand Canyon. The 'Jacks are 2-0 at William R. Johnson Coliseum. SFA's only loss to the Lopes came in their last outing between the two teams, an 86-83 loss in Phoenix, Ariz. This will be the fourth matchup in a series dating back to SFA joining the WAC in the 2021 season.

The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks won their second straight conference game with their 89-84 overtime win over the Seattle Redhawks. The Lumberjacks improved to 12-6 overall and 5-2 in conference play. SFA has won five straight home games and seven of their last eight games overall. The Redhawks fell to 10-8 overall and 3-4 in conference play.
In another close WAC game, SFA converted on their free throws down the stretch earning the 89-84 win over Seattle. The Lumberjacks for the first time this season had six players finish the game in double-digit scoring. Jalil Beaubrun had a career night posting a career-high in points and rebounds with his 16 points and 10 rebounds respectively. Nana Antwi-Boasiako posted 16 points, eight rebounds, three steals, and one block. Jalil Beaubrun (16), Matt Hayman (14), AJ Cajuste (13), Latrell Jossell (10), and Frank Staine (10) also posted double-digit scoring performances for SFA.
The Lumberjacks have scored 75 points or more in their last seven wins. Matt Hayman has been a scoring catalyst lately for the 'Jacks. He has posted 20-point performances in two of the last four games and has three 20-point games this season.
Myles Jenkins (46.2%), Matt Hayman (44.7%), and Jalil Beaubrun (42.1%) are all shooting above 40% from the three-point line. Frank Staine leads the Lumberjacks with his 22 made three-pointers.
SFA currently ranks number one in the WAC in four different statistical categories. The 'Jacks are number one in bench points (37.71, 3rd NCAA), first in offensive rebounding per game (13.33, 26th NCAA), first in steals per game (9.7, 14th NCAA), and first in turnovers forced per game (18.28, 4th NCAA).

Before their 86-79 loss to the Seattle Redhawks, the Grand Canyon Lopes won 14 games straight. The Lopes are averaging 81.6 points per game on 48.7% shooting from the field. Their scoring is led by Tyon Grant-Foster's 20.2 points per game. Gabe McGlothan (15.0) and Ray Harrison (13.3) are also averaging double-digit scoring for the Lopes.
GCU's 14-game winning streak, formerly the second longest in the nation, ended when the Redhawks scored the game's final eight points to post an 86-79 conference victory at Redhawk Center.
In their loss to Seattle, Grant-Foster scored 25 points, going 7-for-20 from the field and 9-for-12 on free throws. Like Gabe McGlothan, he added a team-high seven rebounds.
