
SFA Loses 75-70 to Trailblazers

ST. GEORGE, Utah- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks fell to the Utah Tech Trailblazers 75-70 in St. George, Utah. The loss snapped the Lumberjacks five game winning streak. SFA is now 10-6 overall and 3-2 in Western Athletic Conference play.
The Trailblazers won the tip-to start the game offensively, but the Lumberjack defense forced Utah Tech into an opening possession turnover. The Trailblazers took and early 8-0 lead on Noa Gonsalves 'back-to-back three pointers at the 17:35 mark the first half.
Jalil Beaubrun hit a free throw followed by a Frank Staine basket, his first bucket against his former team, with 16:38 left in the opening half and cut the 'Jacks' deficit to 8-3.
In the first five minutes of the first half, Utah Tech went 6-for-7 (85.7%) from the field, 4-for-4 from the three-point line and held a 16-7 lead over SFA. After twelve minutes of play, Frank Staine remained Stephen F. Austin's leading scorer, with eight points.
Noa Gonsalves continued to make the Lumberjacks pay from the three-point line. He kept the Trailblazers out-front with his 15 points, on 5-for-5 shooting from three-point territory. Utah Tech held the biggest lead of the half, with their 11-point lead.
The Lumberjacks found their first lead of the night, after Nana Antwi-Boasiako's layup made it a 34-32 game with 1:50 left in the opening half. Stephen F. Austin headed to the locker room with a 39-36 lead over the Trailblazers.
Frank Staine was the Lumberjack's leading scorer in the first half. He shot 4-for-7 from the field and totaled 12 points. SFA leads the WAC in rebounding per game and outrebounded Utah Tech 16-9 in the first half.
Sadaidriene Hall got the second half scoring started with his fadeaway jumper. After ten minutes of play in the second half SFA led 52-49. With 8:48 left in the game, Hall went 2-for-2 from the line and gave the 'Jacks a six-point lead, their largest lead of the night.
AJ Cajuste's 11 straight points for SFA cut the Lumberjack's deficit to 72-70 with :31.6 remaining in the game. However, SFA was unable to close out the game and fell 75-70 to the Trailblazers.
Sadaidriene Hall finished as the Lumberjack's leading scorer with his 18-point performance, on 8-for-11 (72.7%) shooting from the field. Frank Staine (13) and AJ Cajuste (16) also posted double-digit performances for SFA.
Stephen F. Austin continues their road trip in Utah, traveling to Cedar City. where they will face the Southern Utah Thunderbirds on Saturday, January 13 at America First Events Center. The 'Jacks will tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
