Volleyball Season Outlook

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- Debbie Humphrey's 36th season begins on August 25th at 10:00 a.m. in Mobile, Alabama as the Ladyjacks open the 2023 season.
The defending WAC champions enter the season with 9 out of 11 first place votes in the WAC pre-season coaches poll, and three players voted onto the 2023 preseason All-WAC team. Ielan Bradley was named WAC Preseason Player of the Year and Haley Hoang was named WAC Preseason Libero of the Year. SFA starts the season off facing Jackson State University, University of South Alabama, and Tulane University in the 2023 South Alabama Tournament.
Ariana Pagan (288) and Bradley (368) were the leaders in kills for the Lumberjacks in 2022 and will return to form this season. Leading blocker, Izabella Ortiz is also returning for SFA. Ortiz finished with a team high 110 blocks in 2022. Hoang is the reigning WAC Libero of the Year and returns to SFA's rotation this year.
SFA Volleyball will host its home opener on August 31, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. against Cal Poly, and will close the weekend off with a 1:30 p.m. game on September 2, 2023 against University of Southern Mississippi.
The Ladyjacks look to head to Flagstaff, Arizona for the Northern Arizona Tournament, and will compete against Boise State, North Arizona, and Arizona State.
Following that tournament the Ladyjacks will head back home for a 6:00 p.m. game against Sam Houston on September 14th to start their final tournament of the non-conference schedule.
September 23rd will be the start of WAC play with its first conference game being against UTRGV at Shelton Gym in Nacogdoches, Texas. The Ladyjacks will then compete all season long with the intent of competing in the 2023 WAC tournament scheduled to start on November 16, 2023 in Orem, Utah at Lockhart Arena.
