
SFA Soccer Adds Fabian Cuevas as Assistant Coach

The Stephen F. Austin soccer team has added an early summer coaching addition to its roster.
Fabian Cuevas has been a manager for the SFA squad for the past three years. Cuevas has
played a crucial role behind the scenes and will now get an opportunity to be an assistant coach
for the Lumberjacks.
Head Coach Tony Minatta said "We are very excited to add Fabian to our coaching staff! He has been a part of our program for
the past 3 years as a team manager and has selflessly put in the work to earn this opportunity.
Fabian has established a great rapport with our student athletes over the years and stepping
into this position will allow him to continue his own growth as a coach, while helping to guide
this team through the season.
"He was a big part of the two conference championships we won, by providing that example of someone who shows up every
day and consistently does the work to a high standard, regardless of what is being asked of
him. We are very happy to have him back with SFA soccer in this new role. Set the Tone!"
Coach Fabian began his coaching career in his local youth city league in his hometown of
Livingston, Texas in 2015. He volunteered coached from 2015-2018 at LYSA while playing for his
High School soccer team being a three-year varsity player and captain his senior year,
Graduating in 2018 from Livingston High School"
Fabian attended and played soccer for Jacksonville College Graduating with his associate degree
in applied science. After finishing his Associates, he decided to transfer to Stephen F. Austin
State University in fall of 2020 to finish out his degree plan to and to follow his passion in
coaching. Fabian joined the SFA Women's soccer team to become a student manager and learn
from some of the top coaches in the country.
While at SFA, the Lumberjacks went on to win the Southland Conference championship in 2020
and made the transition to the WAC in 2021 where they became conference champions again
in back-to-back seasons. Fabian was very involved with the soccer program as a manger from
working with the team both in and off season as well as working ID camps, Aggie Soccer Camps
as well as Lil Jack camps during this time. While a student manger and still wanting to develop
his coaching, Fabian joined and became an assistant coach for the Pines 1779 soccer club in
Nacogdoches, where he coached the boys and girls U8-U13 from 2020-2022.
