Big Third Inning for HCU Pushes Huskies over SFA

The Lumberjacks started off hot in the bottom of the first, leading off with back-to-back doubles and back-to-back singles in their first four batters to put two runs on the board early on. Tyree Carr added another run for the 'Jacks with a no-doubter home run in the second inning, his first of the year.
Everything was going smoothly for the Lumberjacks until the top of the third when the Huskies dropped nine runs in the inning. HCU put up two two-run homers and one three-run homer in the third frame, five of those runs coming without an out being recorded. The Huskies didn't stop there with the scoring as they recorded three in the fourth and one in the fifth, hitting a solo home run in those two innings as well.
The 'Jacks didn't respond empty-handed however, Cole Hill gave SFA a run in the third with an RBI single along with Clayton Loranger and Cal Martin each picking up an RBI in the fourth. Martin picked up another RBI later in the match with a double in the sixth inning, the seventh Lumberjack run of the game.
HCU scored one more run in the eighth to double the Lumberjacks score and build a healthy lead to ride to the win.
Although suffering the loss, the 'Jacks were able to put up the same amount of hits as HCU at 14. Martin and Alex Rodgers recorded the most hits with three hits apiece. Rodgers and Carr both came across the plate to score twice while Loranger and Martin both drove two runs in. Tom Biggs also had a solid day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a run, RBI, and a walk.
The Lumberjacks return to Jaycees Field tomorrow at 6:30 looking to turn things around against Grambling State University.
