CEDAR CITY, Utah- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks traveled to Cedar City, Utah, to take on the Southern Utah Thunderbirds. Game one of the three-game series will take place March 31st at 1:00 p.m.
A Look at The Lumberjacks
The Lumberjacks are sitting at a 15-14 (4-2 WAC) record, after winning one of their three games against Seattle University this past weekend. SFA will look to find their first road win, sitting at 0-6 when on the road. The Lumberjacks have two players batting over .300. Mackenzie Bennett has a team leading batting average of .333, along with six doubles, two triples, six home runs, and a team high 21 RBIs. Mikaelah Burkland is batting .305, with four doubles, a triple, and three RBIs. SFA has also has stellar offensive contribution from Gaby Garcia. Garcia is batting .234, along with three doubles, 20 RBIs, and a team high nine home runs. On the mound, Alexis Telford, Brooke Gainous, and Sophie Hannabas will all look to have strong performances. Telford has a team leading 2.45 ERA, a team high 59 strikeouts, with a 7-7 record. Gainous has a 3.50 ERA, along with 25 strikeouts, and a 5-4 record including four complete games. Hannabas has a 5.17 ERA, 10 strikeouts, and a 3-2 record.

The Southern Utah Thunderbirds will be getting their first crack at defending their home field. This is their first series hosting at Kathryn Berg Field, this season. The Thunderbirds have posted a 4-17 (1-5 WAC) record on the year, picking up their first conference win against UT Arlington opening weekend. Southern Utah has been led on offense by freshman infielder Emily Gonzales. Gonzalez highlights the team's bats with a .407 batting average, two doubles, four home runs, and 12 RBIs. Junior outfielder Allie Laub is the only other batter for Southern Utah with a batting average of at least .300. Laub has a .300 batting average, along with four doubles, and four RBIs. The Thunderbirds pitching is led by freshman Riley Nielsen's team leading 5.98 ERA. She is also joined by sophomore pitcher Keimon Winston who leads Southern Utah 18 strikeouts.
