Lumberjacks Light Up the Scoreboard against Utah Tech

The Lumberjack bats lit up the Trailblazers this afternoon, as they collected 17 runs on 21 hits. The team had seven players with multiple hits on the day and four Lumberjacks collecting three hits.
Cal Martin remained hot at the plate and started the scoring in the first inning with a RBI single to right center. The Trailblazers scored their first run of the day in the second inning with a sacrifice fly, tying the game at 1-1 going into the third.
The 'Jacks broke the game open with a monster eight-run third inning and it all started with a Clayton Loranger three-run home run to right center. The Lumberjacks continued the rally with three straight singles followed by a pass ball, scoring Peyton Parker from third. Cole Hill recorded the seventh straight hit to start the inning for SFA and brought in another run with a single to center field. With Hill at first base and Tom Biggs at third base, the 'Jacks executed a double steal, which allowed Biggs to score and Hill to be safe at second. Sam Adams kept the inning going with a single to left field, bringing in Hill from second. Two more Lumberjacks were then able to get on base, loading up the bases for SFA. The nightmare inning continued for the Trailblazers as Parker put a ball in play which forced an error from the Utah Tech third-basemen, allowing Adams to score the eighth run of the inning and giving SFA the 9-1 lead.
The Trailblazers were able to lighten the damage as they scored two in the bottom of the third with a two-run single, and four in the fourth after hitting two singles and taking advantage of three walks. After four innings, the 'Jacks held the lead at 9-7.
The Lumberjacks got two of those runs back in the top of the sixth, one being from Cody Fleischer's second home run of the year and the other being from a sacrifice fly from Alex Rodgers,
Following a solo shot from Utah Tech in the bottom of the seventh, Nolan Brown picked up his first RBI of the day with a single to left center in the top of the eighth. The Trailblazers looked to make another comeback as they hit another solo home run in the bottom half of the inning to make it a three-run game at 12-9.
Looking for some insurance runs going into the final inning, the 'Jacks quickly loaded up the bases with three straight singles. Adams followed by walking in the first run of the inning and Brown ended all hopes of a Trailblazer comeback as he crushed a grand slam to left field on the first pitch he saw, giving the Lumberjacks the 17-9 lead. Benny Emmons III was able to go three-up, three-down in the bottom of the ninth to close out his fifth inning on the mound to give the Lumberjacks their fourth straight win and second straight conference series win.
Martin, Biggs, Adams, and Brown were the four Lumberjacks to pick up three hits in the game while Adams scored the most runs with four, Brown drove in the most runs with five, and Loranger drew the most walks with three.
The Lumberjacks close out the series in St. George tomorrow at 1:05 and look to go for the series sweep against the Trailblazers.
