Aiyana Johnson Ties Career-High in Points and Records Her Second Double-Double as Ladyjacks Defeat Texans

STEPHENVILLE, Texas- Stephen F. Austin defeated Tarleton State, 68-54 Monday afternoon. SFA improves to 19-4 (9-2 WAC) while Tarleton falls to 7-15 (1-10 WAC).
The first quarter was a close battle as neither team held more than a four-point lead. SFA held the four-point advantage going into the first quarter break, 19-15. Tarleton tied it up early in the second quarter, but SFA took a six-point lead off of two three-pointers made by Avery Vansickle and Brionna Scott. Tarleton came back and took the lead late in the first half and went into the locker room with a two-point lead, 33-31. The teams continued to trade blows in the third quarter until the Ladyjacks went on a 9-0 run to take a 10-point lead and went into the fourth quarter with a seven-point lead, 52-45. SFA hovered around a 10-point lead until the final three minutes of the game. The Ladyjacks finished off the Texans and won by 14-points.
Aiyana Johnson led the way for the Ladyjacks with her second double-double this season with 28 points, which ties her career-high, and 11 rebounds. Avery Vansickle followed Johnson with 11 points which is also a career-high for her. Jordan Harrison followed Johnson by grabbing six rebounds and led the team with eight assists. Johnson also recorded four blocks in this game which ties her season and career-high.
The Ladyjacks will be back at home for the rest of the week as they take on UTRGV on Thursday, February 9that 1:00 p.m. and GCU on Saturday, February 11th at 2:00 p.m.
