SFA vs Lamar
Dates/Times: Feb. 21st at 3:00 p.m. & 5:30 p.m.
Live Stream: ESPN+
Stadium: SFA Softball Field
Series: 29th Meeting (SFA leads 20-8)
A Look at SFA
After a 1-3 finish at the Getterman Classic last weekend, SFA is looking to get back into the win column. The Lumberjacks are led by senior Mackenzie Bennett who leads the team with a .375 batting average, .750 slugging percentage, and 10 RBIs. Junior Madison Nguyen leads the team with 13 hits and follows Bennett with a .351 batting average. Senior Gaby Garcia has launched three home runs already this season, followed by Bennett who has recorded two. On the mound SFA is led by Alexis Telford, who sports a 2.80 ERA and a 3-3 record with 29 strikeouts in 30 inning pitched. The 'Jacks may have lost one of the best pitchers in Kassidy Wilber, but that is not slowing them down as they have already plated 39 runs early in the season. Every Lumberjacks who played against Lamar in the most recent game is back on the roster this year, so the 'Jacks have experience on their side.
A Look at Lamar
Lamar went 2-4 last week starting with a loss to Texas and then they played five games in the I-35 tournament hosted by both Texas State and UTSA. LU defeated Abilene Christian 6-4 and UTSA 11-7 in the tournament. Sam Bean batted .571 with eight hits, seven RBI, four homers, and 10 runs scored. Kaylee Ancelot drove in seven RBI on eight hits including a homer in the tournament while Hayley Freudenburg drove in five RBI on three hits, including a homer in the Cardinals' win over UTSA. Lamar will try to get that same level of production from their offensive leaders against the Lumberjack pitchers.
Last Meeting (SFA 10, LU 1 April 16th, 2022)
SFA jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first innning and never looked back. Gaby Garcia went 2-2, scored four runs, and recorded an RBI. Camryn Middlebrook and Mackenzie Bennett each had two hits and recorded two and three RBIs, respectively. Garcia and Sydnee Hebert each hit homeruns in the game. Middlebrook and Bennett each had a double, and Middlebrook had a triple as well. Sophie Hannabas recorded the win pitching four innings, allowing four hits, one run, and striking out three batters.
