
MTSU Hands SFA First Loss of the Season 67-62

MURFREESBORO, Tennessee- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (1-1, 0-0) traveled to the Murphy Center to face off against the Middle Tennessee State University Blue Raiders (2-0, 0-0). SFA lost in overtime 67-62 in their first road game of the season.
The game got started with slow scoring from both teams. SFA found themselves down 13-5 with 9:53 remaining in the first half. The 'Jacks increased the defensive intensity and began scoring off fast break points. Latrell Jossell began to find the basket from behind the arc as he hit two first half three pointers that contributed to a 13-0 Lumberjack run.
SFA's high intensity defense led to points on the offensive side in the first half. The 'Jacks forced 12 turnovers and had six steals. Going into halftime SFA led MTSU 31-22.
In the second half, Stephen F. Austin found early offensive success through Sadaidriene Hall. Hall was the leading scorer for the 'Jacks in the first half and had six of the first eight SFA points in the second half.
The game remained a one score possession for the last 5:21 of the second half. MTSU had a chance to end the game in regulation but SFA forced the Blue Raiders into a missed last second shot. Going into overtime the game was tied 54-54.
SFA was outscored 13-8 in overtime and lost their first game of the season 67-62. Latrell Jossell was the leading scorer for the Lumberjacks. He scored 16 points on 5-8 shooting, was 4-5 from behind the arc, and led the team with four assists. Sadaidriene Hall was second in scoring for SFA. Hall posted 15 points on 6-9 shooting. The Lumberjack defense had nine steals and forced the Blue Raiders into 18 turnovers.
Stephen F. Austin will be back in action on November 13th against Northwestern State. SFA will travel to Natchitoches, LA to take on the Demons in Prather Coliseum at 6:30 p.m.
