
SFA Opens Conference Play Against Texans

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (4-2, 0-0) open conference play against the Tarleton Texas (4-2, 0-0) Wednesday, November 29 at William R. Johnson Coliseum. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30pm.
History of the Matchup:
SFA enters tomorrow's contest with a 10-2 record against Tarleton. The 'Jacks have a 7-0 record at home. Stephen F. Austin's last meeting vs. the Texans was last season on February 15, 2023 in a 65-60 win at home. SFA was led by Nigel Hawkins' 22-point performance.
A Look at the Lumberjacks:
The Lumberjacks come into conference play with a 4-2 record and are currently ranked in the NCAA's top 50 for six different statistical categories. SFA is ranked 21st in bench points per game (33.67, 1st WAC), 17th in effective FG percentage (57.9%, 1st WAC), 14th in FG percentage (51.3%, 1st WAC), 24th in steals per game (10.0, 2nd WAC), 15th in three-point percentage (40.4%, 1st WAC) and 12th in turnovers forced per game (18.0, 1st WAC).
SFA is coming off a second-place finish at the Cayman Island Classic Tournament. The 'Jacks had wins over Loyola Marymount (86-76) and Drake (92-68) before falling to Utah State (79-49) in the championship. Nana Antwi-Boasiako finished as the 'Jacks leading scorer in the loss versus the Aggies. Nana scored 11 points on 4-for-6 shooting and posted two blocks along with a steal. AJ Cajuste and Latrell Jossell were both named to the Cayman Islands Classic All-Tournament Team.
Sadaidriene Hall is the Lumberjack's leading scorer and currently represents the WAC with his conference leading 57.7% shooting from the field. Hall led the WAC in the 2022-23 season with his 59.35% shooting from the field. He is currently averaging 12.5 points per game and is also SFA's leading rebounder averaging 5.2 per game.

Tarleton is coming off a perfect 2-0 week and the SoCal Challenge Sand Division title. After being named the SoCal Challenge Sand Division MVP, Jakorie Smith added to his trophy case as he was named the WAC player of the Week for the first time in his career. Smith was named the MVP of the Sand Division, the second WAC player to earn the honor in the first three years of the invitational.
The Texans are off to a 4-2 start, its best start to the season in their D1 era. At the SoCal Challenge, Smith led the team in scoring in both wins against Austin Peay and Cal State Bakersfield. On Monday, Smith posted 28 points, the highest in all three years at the Sand Division of the SoCal Challenge. He also co-led the team with seven rebounds and two steals. Smith led all scorers again on Wednesday scoring 17 points on a team-best three from behind the arc. His three steals were also a game-high.
