
Lumberjacks Honor Seniors on Veterans Day

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (3-6, 0-4) host the Southern Utah Thunderbirds (4-5, 2-2) on senior day at Homer Bryce Stadium on November 11th. Kickoff is set for 4 pm CT at Homer Bryce Stadium. The game being played on Veterans' Day is also known as Stephen F. Austin's "Salute to Service" game.
Matchup History
Saturday's matchup will be the 7th meeting between the two programs. The all-time series is currently tied 3-3. The last meeting between the two teams was October 22, 2022 in Cedar City, Utah at Eccles Coliseum where the Lumberjacks won 41-38 over the Thunderbirds.
A Look at SFA
The Lumberjacks offense struggled to get much going against the Tarleton Texans' defense in last Saturday's loss. Brian Maurer started at quarterback after missing the second half of the game against Central Arkansas and the full game against Abilene Christian due to an injury. In his first game back, Maurer had 24 completions for 180 yards with a long pass of 32 yards. Jerrell Wimbley and Anthony Williams tacked on to their combined rushing total bringing it to 1,124 on the year. Wimbley and Williams rushed for 70 yards and 62 yards respectively. Wimbley added on a rushing touchdown in the performance bringing his season total to six. Freshman running back Jaylen Jenkins made the most out of his opportunity with six carries for 60 yards and a touchdown. This was Jenkins first collegiate touchdown.
The Lumberjack defense struggled to contain the Texans' passing game as they threw for 389 yards and four touchdowns adding on 188 yards rushing and four touchdowns on the ground. Luke Watson led the way for the 'Jacks defense with eight total tackles and one tackle for loss. Edward Bobino III also tallied seven total tackles and one tackle for loss in the game.
A Look at Southern Utah
The Thunderbirds are coming off of a win against Lincoln University CA in last week's matchup. Quarterback Justin Miller went 17-for-30 racking up 252 passing yards and three rushing touchdowns while also throwing two interceptions. The Thunderbirds' rushing attack was led by Grady Robison who had seven carries for 67 rushing yards and averaged 9.6 yards per carry. Landon Freeman helped the rushing attack with five carries for 59 yards and a rushing touchdown while averaging 11.8 yards per carry.
The defense was able to hold the Lincoln offense to 253 total yards of offense. Aubrey Nellems led the way with 12 tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss in the game. Julian Sanderlin also totaled two sacks in the performance. In total the defense racked up 14 tackles for loss, three sacks, two interceptions, four pass breakups, and six quarterback hurries on the night.

Gameday Events
Saturday's matchup is SFA's Military Appreciation Day and Senior day game. The Boy Scouts of America will be recognized along with all veterans in attendance. The Micky Elliott College of Fine Arts will be recognized on field during the game. The first 500 fans will also receive a camo beanie for the Salute to Service game. Axe' Em Acres will be open at 1:00 p.m. for pregame tailgating.

The Lumberjacks will finish their season next week on the road for a November 18th matchup in Richmond, Kentucky to face Eastern Kentucky University for a 2:00 p.m. game.
