Edinburg, Texas. - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks end their regular season with a tie on the road against the UTRGV Vaqueros.
The 'Jacks were looking to bounce back and end their season on a high note against UTRGV and play spoiler to the Vaqueros home finale. The first half saw both teams kept off the scoreboard as UTRGV dominated the first half offensively as they outshot SFA 5-2 in the first half. However, Lydia Sattler held her own in net as she stopped both shots on goal she faced. A quiet first half led to a more offensively minded approach for the 'Jacks in the second half as they would double up the Vaqueros in shots in the second half by outshooting them 6-3. Both times would be kept off the scoreboard until a pair of goals in the final five minutes resulted in a 1-1 tie between the two teams. Lily Hargrove got the scoring started in the 86th minute as Mariona Garcia Dalmases took an initial shot that goalie Anais Van Doesburg knocked down, however, Lily Hargrove was Johnny on the Spot as she was able to corral the rebound and bury a shot in the back of the net to give SFA a 1-0 lead. However, the Vaqueros made a strong push in the final minutes which rewarded them with a goal as Ana Recarte-Pacheco took a shot that substitute goalie Bradley Redd made the save on, however, Sydney Hammond was able to kick home the rebound for the Vaqueros to end the game in a 1-1 tie.
The Lumberjacks went with a tandem in goalie against the Vaqueros as Lydia Sattler started the game and played 83 minutes while recording three saves before being relieved by Bradley Redd, who recorded a save of her own, for the final seven minutes. Ava Shannon, Jayme Bailey, Lily Hargrove, Jamie Jezierski, Mariona Garcia, and Lilian Adams all recorded shots for SFA. Meanwhile, Shannon, Hargrove, Jezierski, Garcia, and Adams all recorded shots on goal, while Hargrove scored the lone goal for SFA off an assist from Garcia.
Jayme Bailey finishes the season as the leader in several different offensive categories for SFA. Bailey led the team in goals (four), points (nine), shots (29), and shots on goal (10). Meanwhile, Ella Morgan was the workhorse in the SFA lineup game in and game out as she played over 1,300 minutes on the year, which was good for most on the team. Ava Shannon may have been a freshman this season, however she made her presence felt every game for SFA. She finishes the season leading the team in assists with three, scored one goal, was the only Lumberjack player to start all 18 games on the year, and played over 1,200 minutes to cap off an impressive first season in the purple and white. Logan Pilgreen, Bradley Redd, and Lydia Sattler combined to make an impressive 100 saves on the season for SFA while playing 1,620 minutes during the season.
The Lumberjacks season concludes with today's game against the Vaqueros, and they will say goodbye to four impactful seniors in Briana Beaty, Jamie Jezierski, Mariona Garcia, and Kyra Guhl, who we wish nothing but the best in their future endeavors.
