HATTIESBURG, Miss.- Former Stephen F. Austin setter and assistant coach Lauren Adams (LA) Lanford will team up with 'Jacks play-by-play announcer Greg Miller to form the broadcast duo for the road match against the University of Southern Mississippi on Friday evening. Lanford, who worked under Debbie Humphreys from 2011-2016, moved to the greater Hattiesburg, Mississippi area after her final season on the sidelines for the 'Jacks.
Miller is in his seventh season as the 'Jacks play-by-play voice for all home ESPN broadcasts from Shelton Gym. Overall, Miller has worked seventeen seasons for SFA Volleyball and has called over 200 NCAA Volleyball matches on television and radio. Normally he provides radio broadcasts of road matches but earlier this week got a phone call from Southern Miss representatives asking if he could fill in on play-by-play for the 'Jacks Friday match against the Golden Eagles on ESPN+.
"When they told me that my color commentary partner would be LA, I immediately told them that my answer was 'yes'. We have talked about having LA join us on the broadcasts in Nacogdoches when she is in town, but it has not worked out yet. So, for this opportunity to spontaneously arise was something I was excited to agree to," Miller said. Lanford was a setter for the Ladyjacks from 2003-2006 and earned All-Tournament honors at the 2006 Southland Conference Tournament and was instrumental in the 'Jacks NCAA Tournament victory over Alabama that same year.
"Greg has been part of my SFA Volleyball experience since I was a player when he served as our public address announcer," Lanford said. "I have loved watching how his role has grown from announcer to blogger to ESPN+ analyst. His passion for the game and for SFA Volleyball is so real and I am beyond excited to get work side by side with him when SFA comes to my new hometown for the Southern Miss Invitational," she added. The ESPN+ Friday evening showdown between SFA and Southern Miss has first serve scheduled for 7:00 PM CT.
