Baseball Falls in Rubber Game at TAMUCC

The two teams combined for 32 hits and used 11 pitchers in the back and forth extra-inning affair.
SFA was led by Kyle Cullen with four hits in six at-bats. He also had a run scored and a RBI. PJ Villareal went 3-for-5 from the dish with a double, triple, and two RBI. Garrett Goetz had a day with two hits in his three trips to dish, including a two-run homer.
After falling behind two runs in the first inning, the 'Jacks took advantage of a TAMUCC error and scored three runs to take a 3-2 lead.
The three runs in the top of the third sparked a three-inning stretch where each team scored in their respective half-inning. When the dust settled after the bottom of the fifth, the Islanders held a 7-6 lead.
An inning later, the 'Jacks knotted the game at seven when Jake Zarrello launched a solo homer setting up for the late-inning fireworks.
SFA opened the top of the ninth up with a pair of runs when Villareal tripled to center, plating two runs. However, TAMUCC sent the game into the extra innings with a pair of runs in the home half of the ninth.
The 'Jacks looked like they won the game in the top of the tenth with another two runs with a sac fly and a wild pitch, but the Islanders answered with three in the bottom of the 10th to pick up the game and series win.
SFA will return to the diamond with a three-game series against Lamar beginning on Friday, March 11 in Nacogdoches.
