Late Game Heroics Give 'Jacks the Series Opening Win

Corpus Christi, TX - The SFA baseball team used a three-run tenth inning and a two-homer day from Dillon Eatman to pick up the series-opening 9-6, win on the road at Texas A&M Corpus Christi Friday night.

The 'Jacks took the early 2-0 lead through three innings after Cameron Crawford scored a run in the first and third innings. He led off the game with a triple and scored on a wild pitch in the first. In the third, Cameron singled, stole second, moved to third on a fly ball to right, then scored on another wild pitch.

TAMUCC answered with two runs in the fourth, fifth and a solo run in the sixth to take a 5-2 lead. SFA cut the margin down to 5-3 in the seventh when Eatman launched a solo homer, but the Islanders answered with a run in the bottom of the eighth to regain the three-run lead, 6-3.

However, the 'Jacks' bats came alive in the top of the ninth when Crawford got things started off with a single. Kyle Cullen followed with a double, and Eatman knotted the game at six with a three-run homer. Eatman's second homer of the day sent the game into the extra frame.

With a runner on, Chaney Dodge roped a triple to break the tie in the first extra inning frame. Dodge came around to score on Crawford's RBI single to right, and the 'Jacks added their third insurance run of the inning when Eatman drove in his fifth RBI of the game to give the 'Jacks the 9-6 lead.

Eatman finished the game 2-for-5 with two runs scored and his five RBI. Crawford was 5-for-6 with four runs score and an RBI.

On the bump for the 'Jacks, Skyler Jaco picked up the win after working five innings in relief.

The two teams square off again Saturday and Sunday for the final three games of the series.
